The United States of America. This one term has a myriad of connotations. It can be a term of strength, stability and hope for the future. It also brings with it great animosity and hatred to millions worldwide. "One Nation, Under God", set forth on an uncharted journey well

before the Declaration of Independence was signed by our forefathers over 237 years ago . They sought to establish a Nation of principles and values, where the common man had the opportunity to aspire to be who they wanted to be and create a new life, a better life for the establishments of Europe. Through a collective democratic thought we have emerged from a nation of people barely clinging to survival, to becoming the greatest superpower the world has ever seen. I believe it is safe to assume that many people in this country love our nation. Yes, there are many disagreements over politics and what direction we should take or the overstepping of government into our everyday lives but the respect and thankfulness that we live in a nation such as ours. The images I have chosen I believe are a noteworthy reflection of not only my views of our country, but also a common theme that can be related to by all. First of these are our warfighters. The men our country that train and go downrange to defend our nation against those enemies that actively seek to do us harm. Secondly, I have a national map that has superimposed, by state, some of the biggest industries and companies that are within every state. Capitalism is very much alive and well and drives the economy of our country through free enterprise ventures. Lastly, I have included a beautiful picture of The U.S. Capital building in Washington, D.C. . It stands as a testament to our steadfastness of Democracy and the virtues that we hold true as a people. We collect together our leaders, selected from the people, and hopefully for the people to serve us in the apex of our Republic. The first image is of MARSOC operators. These warriors are conducting a live-fire exercise in preparation for an upcoming deployment. The mentality of the warrior class that has been refined over the last 12 years of war are unsurpassed. Men stand ready, and seek out

enemies of our country with ruthless ferocity, coupled with great restraint and discipline. The refined practice and tactical proficiency is not out of hatred or violence. It is a matter of security and honor in upholding the integrity of our nation when other seek to do us harm. This reflects an undeniable preparedness for things that may come, as well as becoming proactive in taking the initiative to provide security to not only those fighting alongside these warriors, but also their families. This unity brings together a group of men to fight for the common goal of a better America. The economic strength of our nation is through its diversity and competitiveness on a grand scale. On the United States map picture this becomes obvious. The capitalistic nation that was born out of largely unregulated free market has allowed our country to have enormous growth. This nation was allowed to be build by men who were willing to make a personal sacrifice in defense of freedom and democracy. This has allowed everyday Americans to have common luxuries such as security, a Coke to drink, a washer for clothes, a phone to communicate with or a car to drive. While the benefits of having a consumer based nation can be great to many. There are downfalls, namely, larger corporations overpowering small businesses with unmatchable prices to the point where they have no choice but declare bankruptcy or sell to the larger corporations. A key centerpiece to much of our nation's integrity, strength and diversity is the U.S. Capital building. Within its confines an entire branch of our government is housed. The political innards of our country are housed here. The continued assurance of democracy and freedom are handled by our Legislative branch. Unfortunately, though there should be hope for a continued and prosperous future, that is not the case as of now. Currently only 8% of

Americans approve of our nations lawmakers. But still, our Capital building has endured the test of time and proven through harsh times, the will of the people will prevail. Congress still provides the oversight for the military and regulates our nations warriors. The strength and justice that they provide is undeniable in assuring our nation is properly equipped and ready to defensively or offensively protect our great nation. The strength of our nation has never been solely the individual. It is the collective base of men and women coming together for a common goal. It is our unity that has given us strength. "United We Stand, Divided We Fall", that is the state motto reflected on my homestate's flag of Kentucky. I believe this maxim carries with it great credibility and testament to our nation. Whether it be the incorporation of our nation's defenders fighting side-by-side in austere conditions world-wide, Fortune 500 companies, or our current political landscape in Congress. We are a nation that thrives and expands by coming together for a collective goal. God willing it will remain that way and the actions we take now will continue on into our legacy.
