[Ft. Collins, CO] [November 4, 2013] Within the fiscal year of 2012, 40 schools in the Poudre School District have received Energy Star awards for their outstanding efforts toward sustainability and green energy. The awards are based off of meeting the requirements of 3 separate criteria; 1. Each school must earn a minimum score of 75 using Energy Stars Portfolio Manager. 2. Meet strict guidelines for adequate light levels, indoor air quality and comfort. 3. Also have the ventilation air meet the ASHRAE 62.1 standards for all areas of the school. These buildings are scaled on a list of competitive criteria that mean much more than energy performance. The scale, ranging on a point scale from 1-100, takes into account all of the data discussed above and determines how much energy the building uses at its most efficient state. Energy Management Manager at Poudre School District Stu Reeve comments in saying, Energy Star is not just about performance! To earn the prestigious Energy Star label, schools must go above and beyond what is typically required to be considered eco-friendly. In determining the overall energy performance of a building relative to its peers, Energy Star assesses the climate, weather, and business activities at the property. As the Energy Star website claims, the result of this analysis is an equation that will predict the energy use of a property, based on its experienced business activities.
