Argumentative Essay English Curriculum Directions: The English curriculum is debated almost every single year.

Some people are fighting to make sure some novels stay in the curriculum, some people are fighting for novels to be removed from the curriculum, and some people are fighting to add in new books to replace some of the older cannon texts. The argument is to make sure that the texts students are reading teaches them the necessary skills needed to be successful past high school but also to make the texts relevant to them. Many people are now asking these questions when addressing the English curriculum: Should we make sure that any of the books from the English curriculum stay in the curriculum? Should we remove any of the books from the English curriculum? Should we add any new texts into the English curriculum?

Over the next few days you will closely analyze texts from the English curriculum and/or texts that could be added. You will research, discuss, and answer in argumentative essay form one of the above Should questions. Make sure you include: a clear thesis statement related to one of the Should questions above information or evidence to support your stand on the Should question (quotes from the novels to support your claims) a powerful conclusion.
