Prencis Chism Randolf 12/2/13 Senior Project Passionate and Complex I would spend my entire life standing out rather than fitting in with the crowd. There is nothing special about being basic. Throughout life, steps have to be made in order to take a persons level of existence higher. Certain characteristics and actions will do just that. For example, having good leadership qualities and being able flexible to change both can enhance the way a person appears to employers, recruiters, or an admissions team. Characteristics like these display and individuals passion and complexity through things such as athletics, academics, and work. Being an athlete is one thing, but being a student athlete requires much more. I participate in three different sports. I run cross country in the fall, I play basketball in the winter, and I run track in the spring. I am active every season throughout the school year. In doing so, I learn many things. One important quality I obtain from being a student athlete is leadership skills. For example, in order for any team to have structure, there has to be leaders outside of the coaching staff. These leaders have to be willing to take responsibility for the team as a whole and lead by example. This basketball season I did just that, and for the first time in my coachs life he witnessed all members of the team vote for the same people, I being one of those choices.

Furthermore, it is not always true what they say about athletes. That is, athletes arent smart. One of the reasons my teammates look up to me is because of my academic achievements. I was inducted into the National Honor Society my sophomore year in high school. I have maintained a 4.0 all throughout high school except for one B I received the second semester of my junior year due to certain circumstances. The circumstance was that I had gotten into a fight, one that I am not proud of, but I took responsibility for my actions. This incident required me to finish my junior year of high school in the district office building with no teacher instruction. Completing my junior year with all As and one B after all that had happened is a tremendous accomplishment for me. An individual who is passionate about everything they do, challenges themselves. I had been at my previous school since I was in the seventh grade. I was at the top of my class there as well. I transferred schools to test my abilities in a completely different environment and I passed. Even with athletics, and my academics, the complexity of my character did not allow me to stop there. For about half of 2013 I was employed. Half of that time, I was employed with two jobs. I managed to make all the necessary adjustments that I had to in order to juggle work, school, and, sports. My first job was for Joe Randazzos Fruit and Vegetable Market. With that job I learned how to work with people. For example, people who were having bad days, people who had lost their jobs, and people who had to worry about how they would get their groceries home. All those people contributed to my way of thinking. My second job, one of the most riveting experiences in my life, was as a student intern for the first ever General Motors Student Corps. For about 4 months, I worked with retired General Motors employees as well as a college student enrolled at the University of Detroit Mercy. Over the course of the summer, we planned,

budgeted, and completed multiple community service projects. Through that job, I learned to be passionate about things bigger than myself. I learned the importance of making a difference. In closing, I believe myself to be one of a kind. After all, being average gets you nowhere. A person has to be willing to go above and being their own means in order to make an impact in this world. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure, it is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people wont feel insecure around you. Marianne Williamson.
