Nicholas Schreiber Eval

I am extremely pleased to recommend Nicholas Schreiber for Teacher Certification. Nicholas completed his student teaching at Grandville High School, a suburban district of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nicholas successfully completed this experience teaching secondary Mathematics. Nicholas knowledge of his content and understanding of high school students was evident in his lesson planning and preparation. He has given great attention to detail as he carefully constructed lessons that engaged all of his students, paying attention to the variety of learning levels in the classroom. He strives to demonstrate creativity in the mathematics classroom through the use of technology and lessons that promote student participation. The use of instructional strategies move students toward making connections and meet the intended objective. Nicholas effectively uses questioning during instruction challenging students to think critically. Nicholas has had the opportunity to be a part of a diverse learning environment. Students in the classroom are diverse both in ethnicity and ability. Nicholas understands the importance of engaging all students to ensure their positive learning experience. There is a belief in the importance of knowing student abilities in the classroom, and connecting with them in some way out of the classroom. This important connection has been obvious in each observation. Additionally, Nicholas has experience in the co-taught classroom. This sometimes challenging situation has been very effective. The special education teacher and Nicholas work very well together. There is a seamless give and take. There is a shared responsibility and passion for each student in the classroom. The positive co-teaching environment is one example of the ability that Nicholas demonstrates collaboration and cooperation. Nicholas approach to classroom management is clearly defined. As previously mentioned, he builds positive relationships with students and creates an atmosphere of mutual respect. The environment is one where students are motivated to participate and is centered on learning. The expectations are clear and directions are given in a way that provide for structure and student responsibility. Nicholas has a desire for continuous improvement. He is a member of a team of mathematics instructors that work together daily designing lessons for students. This level of engagement allows for student-centered teaching and learning. In this environment, student resources are planned collaboratively and in a timely manner. The time and commitment put into planning and preparation is rewarded in the successful, positive classroom environment. Nicholas will always give 100% in everything he does, and is an asset to the educational community.
