The goal is to be able to cite various sources of media that may be used in a paper or presentation by someone who is not the original creator. The task is to practice organizing the information included in a cited source properly. Practice examples will include citing quotes or information from written works (books, magazines, newspapers), images of artwork (paintings, drawings, photos), music (songs/albums) and what to do if the information comes from the internet.

Inform yourself 1. Go to www.mla.org 2. What does MLA stand for? Modern Language Association 3. Now go to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resources/747/05/ 4. If you get information from a book/magazine/website/document/etc. and use the info in your research paper then you must give credit and cite the item you got it from. 8. What information should be included in a cited entry? Who wrote it, the title, and the page number 9. How do you know when to use italics for a title or quotations when citing a source? Italics for larger works and quotations for smaller works 10. How should you list sources with an unknown author? Use a shortened version of the title in the parenthetical

11. Should you include page numbers in your Works Cited? Yes, only if needed. If you use a journal entry, but only use pages 16 to 20 then you would list it as 16-20 12. What should you title your Works Cited?
