geometry
Math that studies lines, shapes and spaces.
line
A straight mark that doesnt end. Used to make other shapes.
parallel
Lines the same distance apart, they never meet.
horizontal
vertical
Lines that go across.
Lines that go up and down.
perpendicular lines
ruler
This is when two lines cross and make a 90 angle or square corner.
This is a tool used to measure lines.
Angles angle right angle
The space between two lines that meet.
It is a 90 angle, also called a square corner.
acute angle
obtuse angle
An angle that is less than 90.
An angle that is greater than 90 and less than 180.
straight angle
protractor
An angle that is 180. It looks like a straight line.
A tool used for measuring or drawing angles.

A figure whose beginning and ending points dont meet.
A figure whose beginning and ending points meet.
plane shape
polygon
They are flat shapes with height and length.
They are closed plane shapes with 3 or more straight sides.
regular polygon
irregular polygon
A polygon where all sides and angles are equal.
A polygon where all sides and angles are not equal.
triangle
It is a 3 sided polygon.
equilateral triangle
right triangle
A triangle that has 3 equal side and angles.
It is a triangle with one right angle or square corner.
scalene triangle
isosceles triangle
A triangle that has no equal sides or angles.
A triangle that has 2 equal sides and angles.
acute triangle
obtuse triangle
A triangle where all angles are less than 90.
A triangle with an angle that is greater than 90.

quadrilateral
It is a polygon with 4 straight sides.
parallelogram
trapezoid
A quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel.
It is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides.
rhombus
rectangle
It is a parallelogram with 4 equal sides. The opposite angles are equal.
It is a quadrilateral with 4 right angles. Opposite sides are equal lengths.
square
kite
It is a quadrilateral with 4 right angles. The 4 sides are equal lengths.
It is a quadrilateral with two sets of equal sides.
pentagon
hexagon
It is a polygon with 5 sides and angles.
heptagon
octagon
nonagon
decagon

The distance around a plane shape.

It is the space inside a plane shape. It is measured in square units.
curve
circle
A line that is not straight.
A closed, plane figure made by a curve. The curve is always the same distance from the center.

A plane figure shaped like an egg.
It is the distance around a circle.
diameter
radius
A straight line through the center of a circle. The line touches the edges of the circle.
It is the distance from the center of a circle to the edge.
compass
congruent
A tool used to draw circles and arcs.
Figures that are the same size and shape.
symmetry
flip
One half of a figure is the mirror image of the other half.
You turn something over to make a mirror image.
slide
turn
You move a shape to a new place without flipping it or turning it.
You rotate a shape around one point.
concave
convex
It has a curve or dent that goes in.
It curves out or doesnt have dents.

solids face

They are shapes with height, width and thickness.
It is the flat surface of a solid figure.
base

It is the bottom of a plane shape or solid.
It is a solid with a flat, round base and a point or vertex.
sphere
rectangular prism
A solid that is perfectly round like a ball.
A solid with 6 faces that are rectangles.
cube
triangular prism
A solid with 6 faces that are squares.
A solid with 2 triangle bases and 3 faces that are rectangles.
cylinder
hemisphere
It is a solid with 2 circles for a base and curved sides.
It is half of a sphere.
volume

capacity
It is the amount of space a 3-D object takes up. It is measured in cubic units.
It is the amount a container can hold.
