Loading the Bolex

The Bolex is a very easy camera to load. Film in this camera is drawn from and collected onto daylight spools so the operator can easily see the threading and ensure that it is loaded correctly. Below is the actual path of the film (traced in red.) The film travels from the top spool through the sprockets, loop formers, and the gate, before it is collected on the bottom spool.

When loading this camera it is important that the loop formers are in the closed position.

Once the loop formers are in the correct position, it its advisable that you manually hold open the film guide that wraps around the 1st sprocket to ensure that the film is fully engaged on the sprocket's teeth. To do this, use your fingers to pull the small handle toward the other other sprocket which will open a small gap between the guide and the sprocket.

Now the film can easily be sat on the 1st sprocket and the camera is ready to finish threading.
