Not-So-Real World 1.) What do you expect out of such an event? (graduation/commencement) - inspiring - insightful - meaningful (personal) 2.) What did you get for your own? - speech was not as uplifting/memorable as expected - during graduation, heat wave, we watched family members in the audience drop like flies, medics had to keep taking them away on stretchers - surreal experience, looking around at people youve been with your whole life, is this really happening? 3.) What would you do? - keep it short - keep it indoors w/ air conditioning - speakers give actual life advice, watch senior video, more significant 4.) What advice do you think should be given? - real advice not metaphorical - truth behind advice, specifics Continue Not-So-Real World, 11-19-2013 1.) Best advice to give to graduates? a. Dont procrastinate/create good study habits b. Dont be lazy c. Have self-control/will-power, be able to say No d. Dont be afraid to try something new, be outgoing 2.) What is the worst advice for incoming students? a. Take all 8 am classes/night classes b. If your class does not take attendance, you dont have to go c. Dont take all credit hours so youre not overwhelmed your first semester d. Get a job right away to make money, it wont take away from your academics/extra-curricular or interfere with you getting adjusted to you new life 3.) What were the lies you were told? a. College is easier than high school b. Everyone parties/drinks c. Everything you need is in walking distance d. Managing your money is easy 4.) What are the questions you group wants answered before graduation? a. How to start paying back student loans the best way b. How do you establish and maintain reliable job connections? c. How important is a graduate degree in my career? d. How/when do I get health insurance?
