List your sources here in APA Format. Matthew, C, (2008). Obama Wins!... Ad Ages Marketer of the Year. http://www.adage.com Quelch, J, (2008). How Political Marketing Can Learn From Consumer Marketing. http://blogs.hbr.org Lomanto, D, (2011). So, What Is Product Marketing, Anyways? www.whatisproductmarketing.com

Give a 1-2 sentence summary of each of your sources here: what type of source is it, and what is the main idea? The first of my sources has a wealth of information about Obamas successful marketing scheme in particular. The second source is a general overview about political marketing. This information isnt tied to one political figure. The third site has information on product marketing. I plan to use this site to gather information to compare and contrast against the first two.

What is your topic and what is its significance? ( For example:

Im going to write about the effects of the new race

track on the local job market for mechanical engineers because Im going to be in this career field in this community or Im going to compare the daily tasks of LPNs and RNs to show how educational level makes a difference in the nursing field. This is important to me because I want to get as much training as I can before I start working.) My topic is the comparing and contrasting of the marketing of political candidates particularly that of President Obama and runner up Mitt Romney.

Do you have a thesis statement yet? Try writing a possible working thesis herewrite a few different versions,
possibilities, to see how it works, and to give an idea of where youre headed with your ideas. The marketing of Political candidates versus that of products is different and very similar at the same time.

What organizational structure do you have in mind? Look at the templates on the Organizational Models handout and see if one of these will work for you (or a variation of one of these). Copy it here. Then, see if you can plug in some basic info (just a word or two, no full sentences needed) as far as what the causes/effects will be or the compare/contrast subjects/traits will be.

Compare and Contrast

Subject by Subject: Intro A) Candidates Trait Trait Trait B) products what does it take to market a product what are tactics used in product marketing good vs the bad Synthesis Conclusion

Why are you choosing this structural model? What makes you feel that its the best set-up for your ideas, at this point? Since I am comparing and contrasting two different aspects, I thing that the comparing and contrasting model best fits the vision I have for the paper. ReflectHow are you feeling about this essay? What do you like about your topic? What are you hoping to find out/learn through the research process? What do you think the strengths/weaknesses are so far? What are your confidences and concerns? What are your next steps?

I am starting to feel better about the essay. This exercise has helped me to lay the frame work for the essay and get a general idea of which direction I want to take my paper. What I like about my topic (thanks to you for the idea) is the fact that its relevant to the marketing profession. I am hoping that through the research process I will learn more about political marketing and see if it is something I would like to try my hand in one day since I follow politics closely. At this point in my writing process I dont have defined strengths and weaknesses of my paper yet but my strengths so far is that I know where I want to take this paper. My weakness so far is going to be finding non bias information about the political side of marketing. I am confident that there is enough information about the topic to write a strong paper without getting off topic or writing too much. My next step is to do a little more research then write an outline before starting my rough draft.
(Remember, you dont have to answer all of these in full sentences; you can choose one or two to get in-depth with, or you can jot a few bullet points for each; your goal is a thoughtful, sincere reflection on your work so far, with a length of about 150-ish words.)
