the distance of light, will the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by half? HYPOHISIS: If the distance of light on a plant is doubled, then the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by 50%. THEROY: Photosynthesis is the process in which plants gets their energy from the sun. For photosynthesis to carry out the plant will need, water, carbon dioxide and most importantly light energy. Light energy is first taken in the first stage of photosynthesis by the chlorophyll. Then in the second sage all the energy is taken and makes food and oxygen. If the light source to the plant were placed farther away from the plant, the rate of photosynthesis would most defiantly go down. This is because all plants depend on the energy from the sun.

1. Measure and cut elodea at an angle of 7 to 9 cm. 2. Remove a few leaves from end of stem and slightly crush end of stem. 3. Measure mass in grams and record. 4. Put elodea stem side up in a test tube. 5. Fill test tube with water and baking soda solution (1 tsp to 100 mL of water). 6. Put tube in rack and adjust lamp 5 cm from top of test tube. 7. Turn on lamp and wait 1 minute. 8. After 1 minute, begin counting small, medium and large bubbles for 3 minutes. Record data. 9. Repeat at 10 cm with same size and mass elodea 10. Repeat for Trial 2 DATA/OBSERVATIONS:

CONCLUSION: In this lab, my group tested how much light intensity, and distance effected photosynthesis. My group decided to first measure 5cm then 10cm for the elodea to be away from the lamp. As we brushed through the first trial, I noticed on the second trial that the rate of photosynthesis had gone down even on 5cm. The actual percent of decrease was 2.7 on the first trial and 16 on the second. I hypothesized that the rate of photosynthesis would decrease by 50% if the distance of light were doubled. ANALYSIS: In the data, I have found many discrepancies. The first discrepancy I found was that every classs data has a decrease, but period 1 and 7. Instead of decreasing the bubbles increased. The bubbles in first period increase by 19.2 when period sevens data increases by 4.2 bubbles. I feel that the data was inconsistent because period one and seven may have counted bubbles incorrectly. One and seven may have even measured their lamps wrong too. To improve the data I feel many different people have to count and size bubbles. I also think that periods one and seven should have had two to three people check how far away the elodea is from the lamp. My hypothesis was incorrect.
