Written Objectives

The proposed course is for students within the Honors College who are in the process of beginning internship, part-time or full-time job searches. The instruction for the course will focus on the students learning the importance of gaining experience in their field of interest, and job search skills. They will engage in career research, rsum writing, interviewing, networking and other career development practices.

Primary Objective #1 Build an understanding and appreciation for ones strengths, skills, values, passions and interests and learn how to use this self-knowledge to make decisions when exploring and pursuing career options. At the end of the workshop, the learner will be able to: Session Specific Objectives 1. 2. 3. 4. Analyze how their skills, interests, and values effect their career options. Identify key strengths and qualifications they possess. Clarify their career goals. Identify areas where they are lacking the desired skills for their career option and define ways to improve on them. 5. Develop job searching strategies based on career options.

Primary Objective #2 Learn how to create effective resumes and build interviewing skills and confidence that are necessary to market ones self to prospective employers. At the end of the workshop, the learner will be able to: Session Specific Objectives 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Outline the basic content of information that is required for a resume. Distinguish between what content should or should not be included in a resume. Define the resume format that best suits their experience. Compose a resume that reflects their greatest strengths, talents and qualifications. Identify areas of improvement within their current resume and make necessary changes. 6. Produce effective answers to some of the most commonly asked interview questions.

7. Construct a well thought out answer to the question Tell me About Yourself. 8. Understand interviewing dynamics from the employer's perspective. 9. Identify what is appropriate and inappropriate dress attire for an interview. 10. Create after interview follow-up strategy.

Primary Objective #3 Develop skills to effectively market ones self successfully in todays job market through networking skills (including online and traditional networking). At the end of the workshop, the learner will be able to: Session Specific Objectives 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Identify various networking methods Express their career objective in at least 30 seconds (Elevator Speech). Develop an online profile through LinkedIn Identify contacts for career related networking Conduct a networking informational interview
