CQ Researcher Entry on Eating Disorder

1. Prah. Eating Disorder. By CQ Press, a division of congressional Quarterly Inc. www.thecqresercher.com (Feb.10, 2006): Page(s) 121-144. Volume 16, Number 6. 2. In the CQ researcher Eating Disorders, by CQ Press informs the different ways men and women get anorexia, bulimia, and bingeing eating disorders. That Eating Disorder should be more recognized in our society and that insurance should be able to cover for it, Just like any other illness. 3. The medium of this CQ researcher is that Eating Disorder is a big problem for men and women. The author uses examples of young teens story to explain how common this disease is and examples of what the family of the teens think. The Audience is us and the congress to pass the law and make Eating Disorder a sever cause to us. The author was convincing because he explained the quality of what an illness is and how fast is spreading toward man and women. He explains how influence, religion, and family trait bounds toward a person getting eating disorder. As a result the purpose is to tell us and the country that eating disorder needs to be more recognized and that its a big problem we are facing each day where people commit suicidal and is taking years to recover from this illness ( especially since insurance doesnt cover it). 4. This source came from CQ press, which is a great website to get information regarding any research paper we have. It is a reputable source because it has the URL source and the company who published it, the year, month, date, and volume. 5. -Anna know she had an eating disorder, say her mother. She hated it and wanted to be free of it. That drove her to suicide (Eating Disorder). I found this interesting because it lead to what this article is about to explain. The quote will help me support my argument by stating how bad eating disorder gets. -They are everybodys sister, daughter, wife, and friend. You know someone with an eating disorder. You may not be able to spot it necessarily but people with these disorder are living among us (Eating Disorder). I found this interesting because it tells the truth, its not easy to spot someone who has a problem. This quote will help me support my argument by saying people with eating disorder need help confronting their issue (its like drug their going to deny it at first). -the thinner athlete is the better athletes (Eating Disorder). I found this interesting because it supports other ways eating disorder could be spread through. This quote will help me because I will be able to explain how influence and role model play a factor in eating disorder.

Martinez 2 -You probably hear the ration 1-in-10 patients will be male, but its probably more like 1-in6, Males are even more relevant to seek treatment because eating disorders are seen as a womens disease. I found this interesting because this shows how its not that different from other disorder. This will help me by me explaining its just like other disorder that effect man and women as well. 6. The author uses mothers to share what their daughter had to go through to eat and suicide themselves. They explain how much the cost to treat this disorder is around $30 thousand to $100 thousand. This right here is credible because why would mothers want to lie about what their daughter is going through. Mother do have close connections with their kids and if it comes from them then it must be effective.

7. I agree with the author is trying to get across that eating disorder needs to me more recognized and seen as any illnesses there are out there. Its as dangerous as the other and kills both men and women. However, I disagree that they should banned websites that promote anorexia, bulimia, and binging because its a way that we could communicate to people who are going through eating disorder. We could know why they do it, or how did it come through them to eat less or vomit.

National Institute of Mental Health Information on Eating Disorders

1. Eating Disorders. Becker AE, Grinspoon SK, Klibanski A, Herzog DB. Eating Disorders. New England Journal of Medicine, 1999;340(14):1092-1098.

2. In the article What are eating disorder? by National Institute of Mental Health explains what eating disorder is and how to cure this illness. The focus is based on illnesses that cause anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder or any symptoms men and women start to get. 3. The medium of the source is explain what is eating disorder and describing the types of eating disorder. The article describes anorexia as people not eating enough and thinking their overweight, witch in reality their thinner then what they think they are. Bulimia as people vomiting to get the food out of their system or eating too much. Bing eating as people eating too much (fasting) or people eating too little but exercising too much. The audience is everyone who is interested in learning more about eating disorder, getting help for eating disorder, or simply knowing what type of eating disorder are there. The audience would want to learn this because of cases they have heard or simply because they want to know more before actually getting and eating disorder. As a result the overall of this source is to give the beginners a start of what eating disorder is all about and ways to prevent it. With this the author is trying to get people aware of this illness and spread it to other and make eating disorder more noticeable to our society. 4. This source came from a website on the National institute of mental health. This source is reputable because it has all the contact information we need in order to get further questions. 5. Eating, food, and weight control become obsessions (Eating Disorders). I found this interesting because it lead to what the article is about and explains the problem of what eating disorder involves. This quote is helpful because I could use it in my introduction as the main problem of eating disorder. -Although research is still ongoing, no medication yet has shown to be effective in helping someone gain weight to reach a normal level (Becker). I found this interesting because its surprising how much we dont know about this illness and how much people die from it. With this quote I will be able to back up my argument on why so much research hasnt been accumulative toward eating disorder if its been an issue for years. -Although males with eating disorders exhibit the same signs and symptoms as females, they are less likely to go diagnosed with what is often considered a female disorder (Becker). I found this interesting because man are left out from this illness, and they

Martinez 4 shouldnt because they have a disorder to and it might not me eating food but building muscles. With this quote I will be able to back up my argument and say man and women are different but they both have something similar witch is Eating Disorder. 6. This article doesnt really have any personal experience but it does have statistics on how medication and cognitive therapy helps out patients with eating disorder and that some will depend on the patients family support and them willing to cooperate as well.

7. I agree on what this article is saying slimily because I know somewhat what eating disorder is and this article did a good job in explain the types of eating disorder, symptoms of eating disorder and how to get treated for eating disorder. However, I disagree that medication actually help stop eating disorder (even if they specifically didnt say it) and that they should do more research of this illness.

Addressing Eating Disorder in Middle and High School

1. Mulheim Lauren."Eating Disorders in Middle and High Schools, by Lauren Mulheim." Eating Disorders in Middle and High Schools, by Lauren Mulheim. N.p., n.d. Web. 21 Oct. 2013. 2. In the articles for FEAST: Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High Schools, Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D., CEDS inform us about how Eating Disorder starts sooner when kids are in 5th grade all the way to 12th grade. It also informs us of way student and teacher should help kids with controlling eating disorder or prevent eating disorder and that they should get parents involved with this ideas as well. 3. The medium that Muhlheim, Psy.D., and CEDSs trying to get through is that we should stop eating disorder form spreading and why not start it in school where they spend most of their in. The types of source they use is statistics on how many percentage do girls and boys have when admitting to vomiting or actually having an eating disorder already. The audience is the board member of the schools, government and parents. I feel that the audience will be convinced because if we already have classes teaching us about sexual protection; so why not have classes where they talk about eating disorder. Also the facts and ways to prevent eating disorder does actually help and would make the kid healthy and better off in life. The overall purpose of this article is to convince the audience of the risk eating disorder have toward children and that they need to learn ways to prevent it and learn the warning signs. 4. This source came from Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment for Eating Disorder (F.E.A.S.T.) and they also give a contact number where we could contact them for more information. 5. We now know that families do not cause eating disorders. We also know that
anorexia nervosa existed long before the current cultural ideal of thinness, so sociocultural explanations for anorexia are only one piece of the puzzle. Personality traits of anxiety and perfectionism are associated with or believed to contribute to eating disorders (Eating Disorders). I found this interesting because family is a big part of a childs life and it helps if the child get influence by their parents. I will use this quote to support one of my arguments on how influence plays a role in eating disorder.

-Early intervention is crucial. The sooner one gets help, the greater the likelihood
that they will get better. Without early intervention eating disorders may become chronic, or even fatal (Eating Disorders). I found this interesting because this is a first step in stopping ones eating disorder to get any worse then what it already is. I will use this quote to support prevention of eating disorder and how much it could help if others get involved.

Martinez 6
-Schools should provide an environment that promotes and models healthy behaviors and healthy body image (Eating Disorders). I found this interesting because not all schools have environment that promotes eating disorder. So I feel this is a good way to back up my arguments and say this society needs to make eating disorder more recognizable and effective.

6. The author uses statistics and steps, treatments, warnings to prevent eating disorder. With this source he shows that eating disorder is a problem in schools and that it is effective toward a child. It does show evidence that what he says is true and usable for a research paper.

7. I agree with what this article says and how it explains what young children go through. I liked how they are starting to prevent risk, warnings, and important intervention on eating disorder. However, I disagree that some parents might go against this idea of schools being aware of eating disorder because its showing how their kids could prevent eating disorder.

National Poll on Children's Health

1. School Obesity Programs May Promote Worrisome Eating Behaviors and Physical Activity in
kids. Davis, Mathew M., MD, MAPP. Volume 12 .Issue 2 (January 24, 2012): Page (1 &2).

2. In the Journal entry of National Poll on Childrens Heath by Mathew Davis states that parents have worrisome about their childrens activities in school. Also it states that obesity is a big problem on schools when it there little activity going on or too little activity going on. 3. The medium of this journal is that obesity is a serious problem in schools and parents need to calibrate with the schools to stop it from getting any worse. He uses polls of the kids and parents to tell how much activity is going on at school or what ways do the schools do to see if a kid is obesity or has an eating disorder. The audience is the parents and some would be convince and some wont because some think they are having too little physical activity and others think they are having too much physical activity. The overall purpose of this source is Obesity. The author is trying to say that it starts at school and that parents need to understand that what they do for kids is to help them and not make them uncomfortable. 4. This source came from a website that talks about national poll on childrens. This source is not reputable because the website it gives does not pop up. 5. Meanwhile, there has also been a steady increase in the prevalence ore eating disorder, especial among children and pre-teens. Reasons for this increase are not clear, but there is concern that interventions to prevent obesity-however well-intentioned-may play a role (Davis). I found this interesting because this shows how much we need to find more research on obesity. I will use this quote for when Im talking about how obesity should be imputed as an eating disorder. -In addition, 7% of parents say that their children have been made to feel bad at school about what or how much they were eating ( Davis). I found this interesting because some parents dont understand that the things school do for kids is not to make them feel bad but to actually help them confront their issues. I may use this quote for, who should we blame the kid for being obesity or the parents for not accepting help from the schools. -too physically active (Davis). I found this interesting because its funny how parents would say their child is getting too much physical active. This is the problem if kid dont get to active then thats when obesity starts in children. I will use this as a statement in my research paper, as what is too much that worry parents.

Martinez 8 6. The evidence that the author uses is polls and opinion from the parents and the children themselves. Yeah it seems credible because its based from the actual people involved in obesity.

7. I disagree that parents are the ones who could make the decision on what happens on school because there not the ones going to school its their childrens the ones who should decide if they want the protection of obesity. However I agree in the schools having a function to weight the kids and check their height as well. And how the use polls and percentage to tell what goes on at schools when it comes to eating disorder.
