Harrison Owsiany English 10 11/12/13 Growth from Trials In every good story there are trials.

In every life there are trials. In every society there are trials. Trials create growth. In my life, Eliezer's life, and in the history of the world there have been trials, and from each one we pass, we gain strength. Not necessarily physical strength, but strength mentally, emotionally and or physically. I know for sure that Eliezer grew from that 12 year old boy to the sixteen year old man because of the events in his narrative, Night. In Eliezer's life he has probably seen some of the worst things in our societies history: the Holocaust. He has witnessed the murder of his fellow Jews, he witnessed the burning of babies and many other monstrosities. But as the Holocaust went on, day by day Eliezer became stronger. Probably not so much physically because of the lack of food but, mentally and emotionally, it is undistributable that he got stronger and could cope better with the events he was seeing. Emotionally he grew because when his father died although he knew it was going to happen he did not cry. He was then only concerned with finding and getting food for himself. As for physical growth he did get stronger and bigger, from puberty and also from the manual labor he was forced to endure. Since I was twelve and now when I am sixteen I have definitely been changed by what has happened to me. Although my trials were not anything compared to Eliezer's trials, they have still changed me into who I am now. Physically my trials have been the repetition of work outs. My freshmen year I took Fitness for Life and that definitely changed me physically. Mentally I have grown smarter in most aspects of living. I have learned since I was twelve numerous things that are essential to living a good life. Mentally this book spoke to me and it told me that trials create strength. Emotionally I have grown honestly less feminine. As a child I was not very strong emotionally. I could not handle situations that I felt weak or that made me feel scared. But now I can honestly say I have really improved in that. I can deal with most any situation now I think. I think my emotional growth is related to the trials of life, and learning that if I could not handle situations then I would not get far in my life. My trials are different than those that face the world. In our society we constantly face many trials. Athletes face physical trials, scientists face mental trials. We all face emotional trials daily. The woman or man who overcomes the most strife is also often the one who makes the greatest contribution to this world. (Mansell) When athletes face challenge themselves daily in practise. All the training that they go through to be in the physical condition that they are in is just massive. That is hours a day of work that these people do. Now we know exercising also contributes positively to someone's intelligence. (Clendaniel)Then mentally these minds of our planet stress, and overwork themselves just to understand little bits of our planet and why things are the way they are. Just all the learning they have to undergo to be able to figure out new things is literally years worth of knowledge.

Emotionally we all have to cope with what's happening all around us. Even in the past and even the future. Trials are what determines how we turn out in life. They define who we are. They define our strengths. They defined the strengths of Eliezer, me and society. How we conquer our challenges is what determines just how strong that challenge makes us. In my life, Eliezer's life, and in the history of the world there have been trials, and from each one we pass, we gain strength.
