Colors!

We see a variety of colors on a daily basis. The study of color has been an interest to many artists such as the Impressionists. As an artist, it is important to understand how colors function. For this assignment, complete the Elements of Art handout. Once you have finished the handout, in assigned pairs pick 4 different colors of the color paper (2 colors per student) and with paint using only the primary colors, try to match your chosen colors. Use what you know about the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Consider, what can you use besides black to darken a color? Is the hue warmer or cooler in tint? Once you have all your colors check by the teacher, pick out 4-5 pieces of wood. Apply 1 or 2 even coats of paint using the colors you have created. You must use a minimum of 3 colors. Remember, neatness counts towards your grade! Once your pieces have dried you may pick out a piece of black poster board paper and black and white wood pieces and arrange them anyway you like on the poster board. Once you have your composition, with a teachers help you may glue them down to the board. You will be graded on the following: Color Mixing -Student was accurate with replication of color. Technique - Finished project looks neat. No visible glue marks. - Applied 1-2 even coat(s). - Pieces are creatively placed

Lauren Pinho Professor Purvin Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01 Fall 2013 Rationale Statement Statement of Standard 5- Assessment Teachers shall understand and use multiple assessment strategies and interpret results to evaluate and promote student learning and to modify instruction in order to foster the continuous development of students. (NJPTSB, 2004, pg 13) Name of Artifact: Assessment to Lesson Plan 2 Date of Artifact: Fall 2013 Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01 Rationale Statement: As a teacher, we must be able to assess student growth throughout the year. We can teach any subject five times a week, forty minutes a day, but it means nothing if the students arent absorbing the knowledge. And it is up to us as teachers how we will record progress. Therefore for this assignment I had to create a assessment of some sort to test my student based off the lesson I created the previous week. I decided to do this in two ways. First, I found a worksheet online that I could use to test my students about what they know about color before I even teach them anything. The sheet will have ten points and must be completed before handing in the final assignment. Students may use the sheets as a reference while working on their assignment. Then I made a final rubric which I will grade and hand back to the students with their final project. This made me think of the things I will be looking for as a teacher. I think it is important to first try the project out for myself so I can see how it is supposed to look. Then from there I can model my rubric more specifically to my project. I used my mentor teachers rubric as well for guidance to see the things she looks for in a completed project. I also wanted to make this as accurate as I could and tried to keep the points I awarded accurate to what I would do in my own classroom. Therefore, I thought up the other assignments I will teach in my future and saw how all the points would add up. Another thing I was able to experience as I stated was using the internet to find worksheets to help me rather than having to create something from scratch. Although technology can inhibit the classroom at times, it also works as a nice gem for times such as this. I honestly see myself teaching this project in the future and I already have most of what I need (except materials) to get me started. This plan was definitely more thought out than my first lesson plan and I believe the project will be fun for the students. I also think I will be able to use my lesson plan and assessment as a template for all my other lessons that I will be teaching throughout the year.
