Public service workers endorse Marty Walsh, another boost for campaign in closing weeks
BOSTON Public service workers who work for the City of Boston overwhelmingly endorsed Representative Marty Walsh to be the next Mayor of Boston after a forum open to both candidates held at Local 888's union hall on Thursday night. Workers from Boston's City Hall, Neighborhood Development, Public Health Commission, Youth and Families, Police Dept. (civilian staff), Water & Sewer, Elderly Commission and Boston Public Schools are united in Local 888 most of who live and vote in Boston. Members from all of these departments attended the union political forum. "Public service workers know Marty Walsh is the candidate who has best served the needs of all of Boston's neighborhoods, said Local 888 President Mark DelloRusso. "Marty has promoted legislation to create jobs and more opportunities for women and minorities in Boston's workforce. That's why public service workers are rallying behind Walsh and his progressive, authentic vision for a stronger Boston." Local 888 members chose not to make an endorsement in the mayoral preliminary election, but have since rallied around Walsh as the candidate best qualified to lead Boston forward on a wide array of issues including education, public safety, municipal finances, jobs and affordable housing. Local 888 members will now actively promote Walsh's candidacy and will begin canvassing in members' neighborhoods through Election Day talking to Boston voters about why Walsh is the best candidate for Boston's working class families.
