Maik looks outside through the window. But for him the way to freedom stays a dream. Of the 21 months the 18-year-old has to stay in a young offenders institution, he still has 12 to go. With 300 Ecstasy pills a year, Maik became a dealer in May a few years ago. Thus I was able to finance my dependency on heroin. he says quietly. Since then he sits here in House 4, Cell 212. Maik talks about his life: My mother couldnt do anything with me. Either I would run away or I was aggressive to other kids. At eleven I went to a childrens home. And sometime after that I started taking drugs. Maik does not talk about his earlier childhood, however. At three his mother separated him from his twin brother a shock for life for the both of them. But whilst his brother found a life full of love at home, Maik got no love. Hal Churchman
