ANIMALS

UNIT 1

HOW DO WE CLASSIFY ANIMALS?

WE CAN CLASSIFY THE ANIMALS BY WHAT THEY EAT - Omnivores - Carnivores - Herbivores HOW THEY REPRODUCE - Oviparous animals - Viviparous animals IF THEY HAVE A SKELETON WITH A VERTEBRAL COLUMN (BACKBONE) - Vertebrate - Invertebrate

WHAT DO THEY EAT?

HOW DO THEY REPRODUCE?

HAVE THEY GOT BACKBONE?

LETS WATCH SOME VIDEOS!

INVERTEBRATES
There are many different types of invertebrates. Some invertebrates have a shell, some have an exoskeleton and other have a soft body.

With a soft body

INVERTEBRATES
Some invertebrates, like worms, have a soft body and often hide under rocks for protection. Other invertebrates, like snails and mussels, have a shell to protect their body. Many invertebrates have an exoskeleton. This is like a skeleton outside the body, which supports and protects the invertebrate. Insects, spiders and millipedes have a thin exoskeleton, and crabs and lobsters have a thick exoskeleton.

INVERTEBRATES
Invertebrates are different in other ways, too. Spiders have eight legs, insects have six legs and millipedes have hundreds of legs! Like many vertebrates, invertebrates lay eggs.

ANIMALS IN DANGER
Animals in danger of extintion are the ones that are only a few left. http://www.enchantedlearning.com /coloring/endangered.shtml http://replantingtherainforests.org/ site/index.php/MassExtinction/animals-on-the-brink-ofextinction.html

MY PROJECT
ANIMALS IN DANGER 1. Choose an animal that is in danger of extinction. 2. Find out about your animal using the internet and other reference sources. 3. Try to include the following information: a) A description of your animal b) Is it a vertebrate or an invertebrate? c) Is it a herbivore, a carnivore or an omnivore? d) What exactly does it eat? e) How does it reproduce? f) Where does it live? g) What protective covering does it have? 4. Write a text using your information. 5. Find photos or draw pictures of your animal. 6. Use your text and your pictures to make a poster. 7. Present your poster to the class.
