New Top Piston Rings Available {1215}

SMCS - 1215 3114 (1ZG, 5EF), 3116 (2MR, 2WG, 4PG, 5EN) Industrial Engines; 3114 (5JG, 6AF), 3116 (1NJ, 2SG) Generator Set Engines Description of Change: A new top piston ring with Chrome-Ceramic Surface (CCS) face material is now used in all 3114 and 3116 industrial engines. Formerly, 3100 family industrial engines with 1-Piece aluminum pistons used conventional chrome plated top piston rings. The higher horsepower 3100 industrial engines, with 2-Piece steel-crown pistons, used plasma coated top piston rings. The new top piston rings are manufactured with (CCS) technology. The piston ring surface has several layers of hard chromium plating. Each layer of the chromium plating has a network of very small micro-cracks. Ceramic material is embedded into the micro-cracks. This manufacturing process produces consistent properties over the entire coating depth and results in a significant improvement compared to conventional chrome or plasma faced piston rings. Adaptable To: The new (CCS) top piston rings are adaptable to these engines in place of any of the former top piston rings as shown in the following chart.

For 3114 engines the new CCS top piston rings were effective with 5EF1142. For 3116 engines with 1-piece pistons the new CCS top piston rings were effective with the following engine serial numbers: 2WG6351, 2MR0511, 4PG4421, and 5EN1064. For 3116 engines with 2-piece pistons, the new CCS top piston rings were effective with the following engine serial numbers: 2WG6299, 2MR0354, 4PG3710, 5EN0706.

The 3114 (5JG, 6AF) and 3116 (1NJ, 2SG) generator set engines as well as the 3114 (1ZG) industrial engines were no longer in production when the new CCS top piston rings became effective. However, the new CCS top piston rings are adaptable to all these engines. Order the new (CCS) top piston rings as shown in the chart for these engines.
