The presentation is to publicise an NHS project to help breakdown discrimination within the health services and the winning presentation will be

used in staff training.

P1- Explain the concepts of equality, diversity and rights in relation to health and social care. Task- Start your presentation by clearly explaining the key points of equality, diversity and rights in a clear and easy to understand fashion so that all services users would understand it. You should refer to the points below.

P2- Describe discriminatory practice in health and social care Task- Devise a poster section of your presentation that clearly explains the following key word points.
Basis of discrimination: factors, e.g. culture, disabilities, age, social class, gender, sexuality, health status, family status, cognitive ability. Discriminatory practice: types, e.g. infringement of rights, covert or overt abuse of power, prejudice, stereotyping, labelling, bullying, abuse

Describe the potential effects of discriminatory practice on those who use health of social care services

Task- What can actually happen? The staff at the hospital need a guide as to what could happen if any of the following key words were experienced by any of their clients.
Effects: Marginalisation, disempowerment, low self-esteem and self-identity, restricted opportunities, negative behaviours such as aggression or criminality Loss of rights: overriding individual rights, e.g. by the use of power and force; statutory powers

P4- Explain how national initiatives promote anti discriminatory practice

Task- Legislation is confusing to individuals. Produce an explanation of each which clearly states what it is about and how it actually helps stop individuals being treated differently.

Assignment 4 P5- Describe how anti discriminatory practice is promoted in health and social care settings. Task- End your presentation by clearly showing how all of the key points below would be actively promoted in your setting.
Active promotion of anti-discriminatory practice: ethical principles; putting the patient/service user at the heart of service provision, e.g. providing active support consistent with the beliefs, culture and preferences of the individual, supporting individuals to express their needs and preferences, empowering individuals, promoting individuals rights, choices and wellbeing; balancing individual rights with the rights of others; dealing with conflicts; identifying and challenging discrimination. Personal beliefs and value systems: influences on, e.g. culture, beliefs, past events, socialisation, environmental influences, health and wellbeing; developing greater selfawareness and tolerance of differences; committing to the care value base; careful use of language; working within legal, ethical and policy guidelines.

M3- Discuss difficulties that may arise when implementing antidiscriminatory practice in health and social care settings. Task- Not everything runs smoothly. Discuss and suggest at least 6 factors that may cause issues when Health and Social Care settings try and implement ADP. D2- Justify ways of overcoming difficulties that may arise when implementing anti discriminatory practices in health and social care settings. Task- Continuing on from M3, now suggest 6 ways to overcome each issue, ensuring that you fully justify why it was necessary for the sake of your setting, its clients and treating everyone fairly and equally.
