The nature of Media Arts is one that is constantly changing. The techniques and technology involved in creating modern media are evolving as the world of technology advances. The rate of change is astounding and would be difficult to grasp using static textbooks. Therefore, our textbook will be other works of art - television, film, radio, photography and the internet.

Understanding Media Forms, Conventions, and Techniques 1. Identify general and specific characteristics of a variety of media forms and explain how they shape content and create meaning. 2. Identify conventions and/or techniques used in a variety of media forms and explain how they convey meaning and influence their audience. Creating Media Texts 1. Describe the topic, purpose, and audience for media texts they plan to create. 2. Select a media form to suit the topic, purpose, and audience for a media text they plan to create, and explain why it is an appropriate choice 3. Identify a variety of conventions and/or techniques appropriate to a media form they plan to use, and explain how these will help them communicate specific aspects of their intended meaning. 4. Produce media texts for a variety of purposes and audiences, using appropriate forms, conventions, and techniques Reflecting on Skills and Strategies 1. Describe a variety of strategies they used in interpreting and creating media texts, explain which ones they found most helpful, and identify appropriate steps they can take to improve as media interpreters and producers 2. Explain how their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing help them interpret and produce media texts
Procedures
Late and Missing Assignments: o All essential learning must be demonstrated in order to earn a credit. Missed assessments jeopardize a students ability to demonstrate this learning. o Skills such as time management and planning will be reflected in the learning skills area of the report card. Attendance: o Regular attendance is necessary for success o All students are expected to be on time o Completing missed work is the responsibility of the student Cheating and Plagiarism: If a student is suspected of cheating or plagiarizing, the student is still required to demonstrate the essential skill(s) for that particular assignment. The student will be required to redo all or part of the original assignment, or to complete an alternate assignment or assessment as determined by the teacher. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete for the essential skill(s) particular to that assignment or assessment and will jeopardize the credit.
