Situation: A young married couple are moving to the area. The need a small 2 bedroom unit to live in which is inspired by Nature.
Problem: Plan and re-design/re-model two shipping containers into a small unit for the couple to eat, sleep, relax and live in. The couple are adventurous, and enjoy all swimming activities, including snorkelling and diving, kayaking as well as having friends over for dinners. The couple are planning on having a baby as some stage too. Specifications: You are given two shipping containers to work with.

You will need to include:

2 bedroom Kitchen Toilet/bathroom Laundry Living room/dining room/socialising room

You will need to consider: How people move in, out and around the building Exterior and interior spaces Layout of interior spaces Climate , sun direction, solar power, rainfalls Building materials Possible landscape design

Design Requirements: 1. Design Exploration Draw everything and anything that you see on the trip. These drawings will inspire and be the beginning for your designing. Take photographs and collect things from your trip that could help aid the design process. Research into the given site. You should be taking photographs of the site, small sketches, gather information from the site. Look into sun direction throughout the day to find where the sun is at what part of the day. Take into consideration natural limitations, e.g wind, sand, trees Are there any social, cultural or historical considerations to take into consideration? Research into sustainable design and choose one aspect to develop and incorporate into your design. E.g. re-using water, solar power panels, rain water collection. Choose one designer and research into their style of designing. i.e whats is a common theme among their designs? Frank Lloyd Wright Peter Eisenman Renzo Piano Or Choose a design movement to research to inform design ideas Bauhaus Deconsrtuctivist Architecture structural expressionism blobitecture Take notes and draw from what you see. 2. Design Refinement From your research begin the ideation stage, idea / thumbnails and quick sketches of things you could experiment with in your design. Experiment with different container layouts and start to include some inspirational ideas from your research. Create bubble diagram sketches to organise the interior layout of your spaces, within your shipping containers. (explorative sketches) Begin designing the individual spaces within the building. Knowing where and what type of windows/doors need to be put in place. (explorative sketches) Develop each individual space until you come up with a final design inspired by nature. (thinking sketch) Include the human figure (hands / head) to show the scale and ergonomics of the building. (Thinking Sketches). Start to develop the exterior of the building, thinking of and showing different use of building materials and considering landscape design.(explorative and thinking sketch) Create your final design on the computer using sketchup and produce final images including people and furniture. 3. Final Solutions Produce detailed instrumental perspective projection drawings to convey and communicate your final solutions. For example: 1 point interior perspective - show interior layout 2 point exterior projection show exterior view and landscape design Include rendering and architectural conventions. Extension Further develop your design by looking into Landscape design and incorporate this into your plan, presentation sketch and perpsective projection instrumental drawing.
