LT Capacitor Sizing calculation

Power Factor requirement as per TD : 0.99 Lag Power factor Loads connected to the System. 1. Motor : 0.87 2. External & internal lighting load : > 0.99 Manufacture Data sheet for Motor NB 503 As Electronic ballast will be used .

So Along with the transformer , Motor Power factor also corrected to 0.99. Transformer Power factor correction : As per IEEE , The following formula is to be used for PFC . Qc trf = ( ( I0 *S )2 Pfe2 ) + K2 ( ( ( Z*S )2 Pw2 )) .(1) Where , Qc trf Var comepensation in KVAR I0 No load current of the transformer as factor of total current (1.5 % 0.015 as per attached transformer vendor datasheet S - Transformer capacity in KVA i.e. 200 KVA Pfe - Iron losses of the transformer in KW i.e. 0.53 KW .as per CBIP K : Load factor of transformer i.e. ( Total load : 186 as per Transformer sizing document so 186/200 = 0.93 ) Z - % impedance of transformer i..e. 4.5 % ..vendor datasheet Pw winding ohmic losses of transformer in KW i.e. 2.170 KW . as per transformer vendor datasheet ( ohmic losses = losses @ 100 % loading iron losses ) Putting above values in (1) So Qc trf = 5.5 KVAR

Power factor correction of the Motor : As per IEEE 60831-1 , the Var compensation Qcm for the 3 phase motor is given by the following formula Qcm = K*Pn/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(2) Where , Qcm is the Var compensation required for PFC in KVAR K Power factor correction factor and calculated by following equation . ( = ( ) ( ) ( ) = 0.42 )

Pn is the Motor Load in KW i.e. 37 .3 KW is the Motor Full load efficiency i.e. 85.5 % or 0.855 Putting all values in ( 2) Qcm = 0.42 * ( 37.3/0.855 ) = 18.32 KVAR So reactive power required for two working 50 HP motors is Qcm (net) = 2*Qcm = 36.64 KVAR So Total Reactive power addition required /Amount of KVAR required = Qcm net + Qc trafo QC= Qcm(net) +Qctrf = 36.64 +5.5 = 42.14 KVAR Taken Margin , Sizing of KVAR = 50 KVAR
