Criteria 4 - Evaluation 4.

1 Throughout the production process of capturing what was initially planned to be filmed and edited, there was various constraints which slowed down the process. The original story consisted of a more structured storyline with a combination of different locations, dialogue and more characters but due to the original cast not being able to make filming dates caused major setbacks. I decided to overcome to these constraints and gather a group of 7 people to take part in the film and adapt the story and make do with what i had. The original idea was cut down and shortened due to a deadline being around the corner and running out of time to produce the film. Bad weather meant that the locations had to restricted so that the camera equipment wouldn't get damaged and filming will still be able to take place. The camera equipment we originally intended to use wasnt available at the specific time so this meant that the film would be shot in a lower depth of field, low light conditions and footage may be unstable and shaky. However these constraints influenced the decisions made to create a low budget horror film with a raw footage style, which would focus on the effects and transitions available on final cut to piece the film together. Another major constraint was the quality of the sound recorded. I originally planned to record scenes with dialogue, however the sound recorded was useable due to bad weather and distortion. This constraint was resolved by cutting down the amount of dialogue used and use tension building music with a horror film feel to help develop the story with a combination of sound effects and useable captured sound. The original idea had been changed dramatically by the time the editing process took place, which lead to a slight change in genre focusing on comedy making the audience laugh more rather than having them on the edge of their chairs in shock. However, the concept of whos there was still a major influence on the short film and majority of the original ideas was included but differed. The constraints also lead to the colour and contrast of the visuals to be edited and the saturation and exposure were also changed due to low light footage, which gave the film an authentic horror film look.

4.2 Despite the major effects the constraints had on the production process of WTF !. the short horror film the final product had a good outcome with served its purpose of entertaining a selected target audience, comical and tensional building. The video was exported as a H.264 video file making it a 1080i visual which is HD ideal for video feedback on PC/MACS. The quality of the sound is good editing software allowed the sound clips to be increased and decreased were needed. The fitness of the video fulfills its expectations and the use of low quality footage being edited using a variety of different effects, transitions, colour correction tools, sound editing settings and a combination of different clips allowed the WTF ! short film to have an effective outcome. 4.3 After presenting my short video to the client i was giving constructive feedback discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the video in which i created. The clients really enjoyed my video identifying the scenes they thought worked well an example of this would be the color contrast used to give the horror film effect. They also liked the combination of humour as well as tension building and suspense which was combined together throughout the short film. The music used throughout was also highlighted as very effective and works well with the video. Clients also commented on the use of the different camera angles and shot types used. Although there were a lot of strengths, there were also weaknesses which the clients discussed. These mainly consisted of the sound issues, the scenes with dialogue was highlighted and the clients spoke about how i could improve and develop a simple solution to these problems which was to either balance the sound using the tools available on final cut or don't use any spoken dialogue which could of worked. Another point put across to help improve the final product was to use a wider range of horror film like sounds like screaming, ghost whispering and loud bangs to help build tension and thrill the audience rather than relying on the instrumental. The client also spoke about the narrative of a video and how the planning is key to good outcome, and how i should use rough copies of edits to watch other and highlight where i could make improvements and help tell the story and develop it, allowing the audience to have a clear understanding of the actual video. 4.4 After receiving and analysing feedback from the client and evaluating the video myself i managed to identify the key aspects of the video which could be improved and should be taken into consideration on my next project. This will include the following problems with solutions:

"

Sound - Using an ADR during the editing process to help edit and level my sound,

"

"

allowing me develop a much cleaner sound. And before filming running various checks on the camera an example would be a test run before filming to check sound levels and make adjustments before to prevent having to use bad quality sound in the edit. Use Of More SFX - When editing my next project i shall use a wide range of different royalty free sound effects available online or made myself to help develop my story and break up dialogue and music, also allowing specific scenes to be more effective. Carrying Out A Detailed Plan - This is vital, and in my next project and future references i shall take more time to create much more detailed pre production documents such as shooting scripts, storyboards and shot lists. Which will allow my storyline to be more effective and easier to understand.

4.5 The final product consisted of alot of technical and aesthetic qualities these will include the following: " The original footage was extremely dark and certain scenes wasnt really visible before editing. Therefore i had to use the colour correction settings available on final cut. This setting allowed me to adjust the amount of exposure each shot had, the saturation making it darker or much brighter. I also added a colour effect which allowed the footage to become brighter, with a cool colour scheme. This was used throughout to show continuity. The original sound recorded was not the best available, due to bad weather conditions the sound was extremely low and was constantly interfered by natural noises such as wind and rain. The dialogue recorded was also extremely low and wasnt at the expected standard. During the edit i had to cut the amount of audio used to as minimum as possible. The scenes in which i used audio i had to adjust it using an ADR lowering the audio where it distorted and increasing the volume where it was too quiet. The adjusting of the sound made any audio useable, however it still contained rain sounds which gave my film an authentic feel.
