Therapeutic action Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the CNS and works peripherally to block pain impulse generation; acts on hypothalamus to produce antipyresis
Adverse effects Headache, Chest pain, dyspnea, Hepatic toxicity and failure, jaundice Acute kidney failure, renal tubular necrosis,cyanosis, hemolytic anemia, hematuria, anuria, neutropenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia, hypoglycemia, Rash, fever
Nursing responsibilities Monitor blood studies especially CBC and protime if patient is on long term therapy Assess for fever and pain Assess allergic reactions: rash, urticaria Report paleness, weakness and heart beat skips Report pain that persists for more than 3-5 days
