Lesson 1: Basic Question Words and Responses 1.

Overview of Lesson: -Class will review any vocabulary that students may not remember. This includes questions such as Who, what, when, where, why, and how. -Using these words, we will ask them to think of questions to ask each other in order to get to know one another and answer each other. 2. Description of Learners, Intended Learning Goals, and Lesson Content *Description of Learners: -6th and 7th grade students (12-14 years old) -Even distribution of girls and boys -25 students in the class -2-3 years of past English experience -The lesson overall is just an introductory lesson on how to carry a conversation in English. *Intended Learning Goals: -Be able to recognize question words and phrases and use them in a sentence. *Lesson Content: -Class lecture, demonstration on how to construct a sentence, class response to question words, pair off into groups to practice lesson learned, then a quick review. 3. Learning Objectives -Given the question words, Who, what, when, where, why, or how, students will be able respond orally to them with few to no mistakes. -Given the question words above, students will show ability hold conversation by asking questions to their peers using these words without looking at notes. 4. Standards -Standard 1: English learners communicate for social, intercultural, and instructional purposes within the school setting. 5. Required Materials -Whiteboard -Dry erase board markers -Desks with chairs 6. Procedures -First, the class will be lectured as a whole. We will begin by introducing one another to everyone. -Next, the class will be shown the key questions words individually, and it will be demonstrated to them on how to construct a sentence with these words. -After shown the question words, the class will be given ways to respond to sentences structured with the question words given. -Third, students will converse with themselves in groups divided by the instructor. They

will then proceed in using the question words to carry on a simple conversation with one another. They must use each question word at least one time. - Lastly, groups will have their attention brought back up the instructor for a quick review of what the class has learned for the day and to answer any questions that the groups were having. 7. Assessment -Students were able to recognize key questions and effectively respond to them in English. They were able to carry on simple conversations with fellow students, and they actively listened and participated in class.
