Student Reflection-Jenna

As the semester has past #enna has been accepted b$ the Special %ducation program and &orks &ith them dail$ in small groups for math and language' She continues to struggle &ith math her tests scores ha(e dipped to )!* on the last test+ the pre(ious &ere at ,!*' -o&e(er in science and spelling she has impro(ed' -er scores &ere ,!* for both at the first of the $ear and no& are 81* and 8!*' -er beha(ior has impro(ed in that she does not appear to be off task as much as before' .n m$ first e(aluation of her at the beginning of the $ear . &as able to find her strengths and interests and ha(e used them in m$ lessons' She is (er$ (isual and lo(es to dra& dance and be outdoors' She is (er$ social and seems to get along &ell &ith the girls in the class though . don/t see her &ith bo$s (er$ often' 0rom her abusi(e past . could see that this could be a factor' She seems to be doing &ell sociall$' .n teaching . ha(e used a lot of (isuals hands1on acti(ities and collaboration &ork &ith groups and partners' She did (er$ &ell in keeping on task and participated eagerl$ in m$ lessons' The summati(e at the end of the first lesson &as to dra& a 2unk food ad(ertisement using marketing strategies' She partnered &ith an %33 student and the$ did a super 2ob' Their ad(ertisement &as brightl$ colored and used the strategies taught+ the$ &ere eager to share it &ith the class' The second lesson on eco1s$stems and homes had a summati(e assessment of creating a home from materials in a specific eco1 s$stem' She lo(es the outdoors and is (er$ creati(e' This &as a (er$ en2o$able pro2ect for her and she &as enthusiastic' She and her partner did a great 2ob of creating a home in the mountain land'

She does not &ork &ith the class on math but in a special education group dail$' . &ould check &ith them to see ho& she is doing there as she is still struggling or doing &orse' . might consider gi(ing her some one1on1one help at least se(eral times a &eek &orking &ith manipulati(es and (isuals to see if this &ould impro(e her scores' . &ould also gi(e her the chance to sit in the back &hen she takes a test as she has mentioned her an4iet$ and being distracted easil$' This alone ma$ impro(e her &ork' She &orks best in a social setting' . belie(e a budd$ group is the best as she gets to talk more and doesn/t get distracted as much' .n large group or independentl$ she still gets distracted but is doing much better' . do not ha(e to 5call on5 her beha(ior (er$ often' Most importantl$ . &ould make sure she is getting the help she needs emotionall$ b$ seeing the school counselor if necessar$' 6eeping in close contact &ith her mom is important though her mom gi(es her no support in school' . &ould place the highest priorit$ on being there for her as a teacher as someone &ho lo(es her and &ill listen &hen she needs to talk' .f . can be at least one person in her life that cares hopefull$ the added supports can make up the difference'

Student Reflection-Jasmine #asmine has progressed throughout the $ear in man$ &a$s' 0irst her test scores in math are a(eraging 8)17!*' .n science and spelling she has impro(ed from 8!* to1!!* 8science9 and 71* to 7"* 8spelling9' She is a :AT% student and often gets o(er1 confident in her abilities' She has calmed do&n a lot and seems to be doing better at not hurr$ing through tests as . had suggested she do' She is also (er$ eager to help ans&er ;uestions and teach others &hen she can this can lead to being 5boss$5 at times' .n her desire to be a teacher she seems to ha(e found a much needed /niche/ in the classroom and her life' This has come &ith befriending Nellie our girl &ith Asperger/s &ho struggles &ith beha(ior attention and friends' The$ sit together as partners and #asmine has taken her /under her &ing/' .t has become a &onderful relationship to see' #asmine helps keep her on task listens to her and is patient lets other kno& &hen Nellie needs some do&n time 8&hich is often9 and has become (er$ protecti(e' . e(en sa& them &alking to school together' #asmine &ants to be a teacher &hen she /gro&s up/ and she tells me she teaches her siblings at home' This desire has been filled nicel$ &ith Nellie and the$ both are doing much better sociall$ &here the$ both had problems before feeling like the$ had no friends' The$ are also more attenti(e in class' -er dream of being the 5best and nicest5 teacher is in its beginning stage' .n her instruction plan . &ould continue to encourage her relationship &ith Nellie and other students and praise her on her effecti(eness at assisting others' . &ould point her to the future and perhaps discuss &ith her &a$s she can assist Nellie in areas Nellie struggles' Because she lo(es to read . &ould encourage her to research &hat teachers do or Asperger/s s$ndrome to find additional &a$s to succeed &ith Nellie' A relationship

like that can be (ital as it helps fulfill se(eral of their needs' #asmine &orks on a higher le(el stud$ pro2ect at free time and home &hich the :AT% students are /piloting/ for the rest of the class' She has done e4cellent in m$ t&o lessons as &ell' She lo(es science and art and the ad(ertisement and d&elling assessments ha(e been great for her' . do not notice an$ misbeha(ior and she is not often off1task and bored as before' . see a bright future for #asmine and &ill continue to be a caring e4ample for her of &hat a teacher should be like hoping that someho& . can make a difference in her life as she stri(es to make a difference in others'
