Is an in-depth collaborative (group) inquiry based in Grade 5 Starts from personal interest and extends into real world issues Requires students to apply their learning from previous years Is a rite of passage from PYP to MYP
Central idea:
Through inquiry and action we can gain a deeper understanding of what matters in our community.
An in-depth, collaborative inquiry An opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for learning An opportunity to reflect upon the journey through the PYP An authentic process for assessing student understanding An opportunity to take action A way to unite students, teachers and parents A celebration of learning
A parent project
Major aspect of student learning during the Exhibition Groups chosen by interest and teacher
Students learn about responsibility, division of work, cooperation and conflict resolution
The Process
1. Explore personal interest and get into groups 2. Unpack the central idea 3. After research return to this and create group-based central idea and choose three lines of inquiry
Now that I know so much about this issue, how can I take action? What is my action plan? How can I suggest others take action?
What issue do I want to explore? What transdisiplinary theme will I use as my lens?
What is my purpose?
Have I completed my weekly reflections and the final reflection? Did I get feedback from my group members, my teacher and my ment or ? Did I assess myself using the transdisciplinary skills rubric?
What information will I put on the display? And how will I organize it? In what other way will I present my information? Am I presenting the most relevant and important information?
Have I found enough information to answer my concept questions? What is most interesting? Do I have more questions? How can I find out more information?
Students set goals, follow timelines and meet with mentors each week
1. Identify questions we have under each of the eight key concepts FORM FUNCTION CAUSATION CHANGE CONNECTION PERSPECTIVE REFLECTION RESPONSIBILITY

Students should use their time at home to research and prepare for the work in class. They will not always be given specific tasks, but will be expected to plan their use of time themselves.
Support, encourage, ask questions, listen Bend the IT rules at home for Exhibition but keep it supervised! Provide assistance with access to resources and local community Facilitate your child in meeting with his/her group of peers out of school. Attend the celebration!
Assessment: How will we know what we have learned? To what extent did we achieve our purpose?
Transdisciplinary Skills: Social skills Communication skills Self-management skills Research Skills Thinking skills
Inquiry does not always LOOK productive. Discussion and thought are hard to see. Time and space are essential when wondering and considering our plans. (Exhibition booklets and binders will show understanding and application of skills more than the final product.)
