Students will study and create a variety of informational, literacy, and graphic text. An important focus will be on the consolidation of strategies and processes that help students to interpret texts and communicate clearly and effectively. This course prepares students for the required Grade 11 preparation course. Guiding Question: How can we understand the journey of teens becoming adults? Unit I: Growing Up in Short Stories and Media Reading Strand: News Article Writing Strand: Create a 2-3 page Short Story Oral Communication Strand: Group comparison presentation using media of your choice Unit II: Leslies Journal Reading Strand: Annotation Test Writing Strand: Series of Opinion Paragraphs Media Strand: Create a summary of Leslies Journal using the Web 2.0 tech of your choice Oral Strand: Group theme presentations
