February 27th 2014 Jumeirah Primary School, Dubai Issue No. 23 - 13/14
Sports days at JPS have concluded once again and the days were a huge success, even when they had to be rescheduled for rain!! The PE team was blown away by the support of the parents this year, with hundreds of parents turning out to support their children over the eight separate days. The children were a credit to the school as they competed in the right spirit, with smiles on their faces and with just the right amount of desire to win. Well done to all of the competitors and congratulations to all of our winners!

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR ENDOF KEY STAGE 1 ASSESSMENTS (SATs)
This workshop is for all parents of children in Year 2 as they partake in their end of KS1 assessments. The presentation will outline the purpose of the assessments and how they will take place, offer practical advice on how you may support your child at home and give you a better idea of the nature and routines of the tests. I look forward to seeing you there! Daniel Smith

CRICKET
The JPS U10 Cricket Team was victorious at the ICC Academy! The boys, made up of both Year 5 and Year 6 boys, maintained a 100% record throughout the event and were clear winners in the final against GEMS Silicon Oasis. The team spirit was fantastic throughout the event and the boys demonstrated great class and sportsmanship; this was noted by the Tournament organisers. A huge thank you and well done has to go out to the school community, as JPS was also recognized as the best supported school via the online voting system that ran over the last week! The captain of the team was Muhammad Vakil who led the team of Omar Syed, Ali Nasser, Nirvaan Chandirmani, Syed Aly Rehman, Arvind Sethu, Jessy Adnan Bashir, Rishi Simran Kumar and Gautam Ramchandani. Gautam was also recognized as the Player of the Tournament by the ICC staff. Mr. Gower said that the boys were a pleasure to work with and he is very proud of the winning record, but even more proud of the attitudes that they all showed over the two nights.
SWIMMING
Children at JPS are taught to swim without the use of goggles during their curriculum lessons the main reason for this is for water safety. By learning to swim without goggles, the child is better prepared for a situation in which they may find themselves in water unexpectedly (falling into a pool etc.). As always at JPS, our main concern is the safety and well-being of our children. By enforcing this rule during swimming lessons, we are developing children with better water safety skills. We do allow our swimmers in Years 5 and 6 to wear
goggles when we, as teachers, are happy and have evidence that the child is proficient and safe in the water.
If there are medical grounds for the use of goggles, an attested doctors note should be provided. Thank you
Stu Williamson will be at JPS on SATURDAY 29th MARCH to take family Portraits.
