Audience Research

We have created a survey in order to ask our target audience questions about their preferred types of films/opening title sequences. We hoped the responses would give us a better idea of the type of things we should/shouldnt include in our opening title sequence as well as what attracts/puts people off of current title sequences of films. Here are the responses which we have had from our survey questions:

100% of the people who took our survey were aged 14-17, this is because we decided we wanted to send our survey to our target audience. Our survey has shown us that 85.71% of the people who took our survey preferred type of film genre was comedy and 71.43% of the peoples was drama. This has helped to finalise our decision to produce a dramedy opening title sequence. Our survey has shown us that our target audience has shown us a range of films that they think have good opening title sequences, they vary from comedies such as Juno to action films such as Inception to the romance of One Day. This has shown us that despite liking particular types of film genres, our audience also like the opening title sequences of other types of film genre. So within our opening title sequence we will try and include elements of a few film genres. Our survey has shown us a number of factors that meant that they liked the opening title sequence of the film that they picked, some of these factors included: the sequence being dramatic and interesting with good music, the sequence being intriguing and it recounting the whole story with it being simple but clever. Our survey has shown us a number of features that put people off opening title sequences we now know to avoid these features when making our own title sequence, some of these features included: the sequence having bad acting or a bad storyline, it being too long or boring and having an undramatic storyline. 100% of the people who took our survey said that they preferred an opening title sequence to have music. After doing this research we have decided that we will definitely be including nondiegetic music in our opening title sequence.
