Reflection of Learning for Fall 2012 Outside Artifact Christina Scott San Diego State University

Community of Inquiry Framework Training I currently teach as an ad unct faculty in the de!art"ent of social sciences at A"erican #u$lic University Syste" %A#US&' (hich is an online university' and a" re)uired to co"!lete at least one faculty develo!"ent course !er year* During the fall se"ester of 2012 ' I co"!leted a re)uired four (ee+ faculty develo!"ent course (hich !resented the Co""unity of In)uiry %CoI& fra"e(or+ for online teaching and learning' e,a"!les of $est !ractices of the fra"e(or+' as (ell as A#US e,!ectations of faculty a!!lication of this fra"e(or+* -his reflection su""ari.es the CoI training course and ho( this faculty develo!"ent de"onstrates the Ed.D program outcomes of organizational advocacy, organizational strategy, decision sciences, professional practice* Although the Ed.D. program learning outcome of instructional leadership does not a!!ly to the !ostsecondary section of the !rogra"' I feel this artifact reflects this outco"e as (ell* -he CoI fra"e(or+ for online teaching and learning focuses on the use and role of !resence in online courses in three for"s/ 1& social' 2& teaching' and 0& cognitive* -he colla$orative online training course I !artici!ated in introduced "e to the core conce!ts in the CoI fra"e(or+ %develo!ed $y 1arrison and S(an in 1222& and !rovided a foru" for scholarly dialogue (ith !eers and the course facilitator regarding the a!!lication of this fra"e(or+ in our online courses* A#US has integrated the CoI fra"e(or+ into their teaching and learning

!hiloso!hy and as such' all A#US faculty are evaluated on their use and a!!lication of CoI fra"e(or+ theory and !ractice* I $elieve this e,!ectation strongly reflects the !rogra" learning outco"es of organizational advocacy and organizational strategy *

-he intention of using the CoI fra"e(or+ is to i"!rove the )uality of online education at A#US and this fra"e(or+ is referenced in other training (or+sho!s and e,ecutive leader co""unications* -herefore' "y co"!letion of the CoI training course and corres!onding a(ard of four CoI 3$adges3 de"onstrates "y +no(ledge of and !artici!ation in A#US educational and organi.ational strategies and contri$utes to the advocacy of university "ission' vision' and goals* Additionally' the colla$orative learning environ"ent in (hich faculty 4students4 !artici!ated re)uired inde!endent scholarly research related to online teaching and learning and the a!!lication of the CoI fra"e(or+' (hich reflects the decision sciences !rogra" learning outco"e* 5y recent e,!osure to the CoI fra"e(or+ has not only greatly infor"ed "y !ersonal research in the area of online teaching and learning and faculty develo!"ent' $ut it has also infor"ed "y o(n !ractice as an online instructor and contri$uted to "y !ersonal +no(ledge and !hiloso!hy regarding online teaching and learning' reflecting the instructional leadership and professional Ed.D program learning outcomes.
