Colorado Rocky Mountains are the sources where the water supply for most west originated countries

come from. As it is one of the main sources of water supply, its not excluded from pollutions or problems. Acid mine drainage is one of the major problems that cause harm on the Rockies. It devastates water bodies and its harmful for the aquatic life. How it occurs is that during mining process sulfur is mostly found with heavy metals like gold. When they mine they dont want the sulfur so when it gets in the water it forms sulfuric acid which makes the water acidic. There is also another way water might get acidic, which is acid rain. Some sources of acid include smoke from coal fired power plants and oxides of cars from urban areas. There are certain species such as salamander that are indicator species, species that react to acid rain and informs that there is acid rain. Poisoning the Rockies will affect aquatic animals, because most animals sensitive to the PH level of the water and a single digit in PH means ten folds so they will likely die because of acid mine drainage and acid rain. The other effect is recreational effect. Acid mine drainage will make the environment very unpleasant and toxic so less tourists are to come and less money is to be made. We can fix the problem by using the technologies we have and the more technologies to come. We should find a way to extract the gold only without the sulfur being out on surface if its possible. We should also educate people more about the effects of acid mine drainage so theyll give their best efforts for a better life
