Emulation of 6 Iconic Images Assignment

Before/Original; After/Edited;

As homage to legendary modern art Mark Rothko, Henry Hargreaves has recreated six of Rothkos modern paintings using coloured uncooked rice kernels and calling the series Mark Rice-Ko. After researching into this image I decided to recreate the picture myself in Photoshop and decided to use paint as this would very creative in the recreating of this picture even though the original was made with rice I wanted to use paint and Photoshop CS6 to get the similar effect.
Before/Original;

Abbey Road is the 11th studio album released by the English rock band The Beatles. It is their last recorded album, although Let It Be was the last album before the bands dissolution in 1970. The composition in this photo is that the whole picture is in focus and you can see quite far into the photo this is to do with the depth of field and focal length.

After researching and planning how I would recreate the photo I then went out on an appropriate day and photographed it having done this I had 4 children that my mom looks after walk across a zebra crossing not that far from my house whilst under supervision when on the crossing due to safety reasons, this really helped with the final recreation of the picture with them stood on the crossing, I used Picasa 3 to edit this photo and I used a filter called (Cross Process) this is what gave the green and orangey tang to the photo.

Before/Original;

Shot for LIFE magazine in 1955, the moody photo of James Dean walking through Times Square accurately portrayed the intensity and mystique of the short-lived actor.

The composition in this photo would be that the actual photo itself is set in a town in times square with him walking through the street on a rainy day also the foreground is out of pixel which makes the picture that grainy effect.
After/Edited;

After researching into this image I then went out on a suitable day to photograph it and for this picture I chose to do it when it was raining and snowing to add more of an effect to how the final recreated picture will look With the before and after analysis of the two photos this really helps to define how the picture recreated is different to the original picture itself. The software used for this picture was Photoshop CS6 with the use of this application I was then was able to use tools such as; Exposure levels which really helps with the lighting in the image, I also used a tool called; Colour Correction this had a massive effect on the picture as I could alter the colours Red, Green and Blue altering these levels enabled me to add more or less of one specified colour or more than one at the same time. After having altered this photo I had recreated making sure that I paid more attention to composition was key but making sure that I got the depth of field was also another element of the photo that I had to ensure was interlinked as my aim was to recreate the photo in an almost identical form to the original.

Before/Original;

The Falling Solider; is a famous photograph taken by Robert Capa, it was understood that it was taken on September 1936 and was long thought to depict the death of a Republican during the Spanish Civil War. After nearly three quarters of a century, Robert Capas photo Falling Solider from the Spanish Civil War remains one of the most famous pictures of combat ever.
After/Edited;

My idea of the recreation of this picture was to go out and find a hill like the one that Robert Capa was sat half down on after getting shot in action. I thought that idea of using a wooden stick in the similar form as Robert Capa as he had a gun in his hand in the original picture. I thought that doing this would make the original recognizable to my own recreation of this picture and how the shadow is formed in a very similar way, I had my dad stand in this certain form to represent the iconic formation and how the original picture is layed out, after I had taken it I then edited it in Photoshop CS6 and used tools called; Exposure Levels, and I used a filter called black and white this helped to make the look alike very similar and with the trees in the foreground give that effect of grainy also the white clouds are very similar to the original using the exposure levels helped me to slightly decrease the amount of light that I wanted in the photo, the grainy effect was done with the exposure tool as well.

Before/Original;

Workers eating their lunch on Rockefella Beam; is one of the most iconic photographs of all time but it celebrates its 80th anniversary it has emerged that lunch atop a skyscraper may have not be done without planning as previously thought. Taken on September 20, 1932 it was intended to look like a natural break during the break of the construction of the RCA building which was later renamed as the (GE building) in 1986 which forms elements of the Rockefella Centre. The people in charge say that the of shot this image showing 11 construction workers enjoying their break on a suspended beam was in fact a publicity stunt.

After/Edited;

My inspiration for the remake of this photo was I have a brick wall in my garden at home so I thought that I could get the children to sit on it in a very similar and eye catching way so that it can instantly recognizable of the formation used for my recreation of the photo and how the picture is layed out when taking and framing the photo I took. I thought that giving one of the children a toy which in this case was a fishing rod would add to the scene I was focusing on also with how they are all looking in different directions this was my initial aim so that it gave the effect that the original picture had except they was eating their lunch, it was a sunny day when I took this photo which added more of a natural looking effect with the creation of the shadows on the wall.

Before/Original;

The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait of a women by the Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci which has been claimed as the best known and the most visited and most written about work of art In the world. The painting thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini is oil on a white Lombardy Poplar Panel and is believed to have been painting between 1503 and 1506, although Leonardo may have continued working on it as late as 1517 and is now the property of the French Republic.

After/Edited;

My idea of the remake of this painting was to use a white backdrop and one key flashgun on a secure tripod and I had the DSLR Camera on a tripod as well I used the built in flash on the camera to help me with the creation of the shadow on the backdrop, this is my niece that I had taken the picture of I had her sit on a chair when I framed this image I then edited it in Photoshop CS6 I also used Picasa 3 I used tools like Oil Painting Effect I also used the creative filter called 1960s in Picasa 3 and Colour Correction in Photoshop CS6 this was what helped me with the orangey effect and making the picture a very look alike form in terms of the original painting.

Planning
I had to plan out this assignment with the research of the 6 images that I had to find and recreate in my own style type in emulation terms of the iconic photos that I will be recreating. Then I had to write a paragraph about each photo explaining what the photo is and what it represents in terms of iconic photo terms or what the photo is telling you about. I will be doing a before and after analysis of each picture that I will be recreating, this means writing what I have done differently to each photo and writing what is different in the original image to my own. I had to edit each photo in a style that was very similar to the original pictures them self this meant using programs like Picasa 3 and Adobe Photoshop CS6 and the tools used were the likes of; exposure, oil panting filter/effect, HDR, B&W (Black And White), colour correction to add more or less of one particular colour this can range from Red, Green or Blue this helped me with adding the orangey effect to the Mona Lisa (Re-make) picture and the picture of the Beetles Abbey Road (Re-Make) with the adding of the blue and white into the picture Composition; in photography terms is composing an image and means arranging certain types within it in a way that suits the main subject or idea of goal to your works best. Arranging elements can be done by actually moving the objects or subjects. A good example for this case is portrait or still life photography. Street photography involves anticipation, since the photographer doesnt usually have the choice of moving his subjects himself, but has to wait for them to take the most suitable position within the frame. Another way of arranging elements is by changing your own position. Such a way is appropriate in circumstances that do not allow the photographer to physically move anything, like landscape photography.

When recreating the pictures of the children stood on the zebra crossing and the picture of them sat on the wall I had to take in to account that they are children and that they dont sit/stand still for very long so this made framing the picture very difficult in terms of trying to keep the blurriness to a minimum also I had to take many shots of the same picture and then pick out the best one to match the scene I was recreating.

Framing in photography terms;

Framing; to me is when you focus on a certain subject your framing this can mean when shooting you have the entire main subject within the frame you intend to focus on, this could also mean taking multiple shots of the same subject but from a wide range of angles and then being able to select the best one out of the photos you have, also framing to me means that you have to line up the image your focusing on meaning that this helps to keep your picture straight and accurate the use of a tripod would gain better accuracy without taking the shots freehand and using this will also help with camera shake and reduce blurriness.
