As students at the University of Michigan committed to the self-determination and humanity of all peoples, we, Students Allied for

Freedom and Equality (SAFE , along with the undersigned organi!ations, call for our University to divest our tuition dollars from all corporations that facilitate violence against human "eings# $n this solidarity letter, we specifically call ethical attention to the systematic violation of %alestinian livelihood "y the $sraeli government# %alestinian suffering is thoroughly documented "y scholars, human rights activists, and world leaders# &uring the creation of the state of $srael in '()*, +,-,--- %alestinians were forci"ly e.pelled from their homes# /heir land was confiscated as stipulated "y $srael0s A"sentee %roperty 1aw of '(,- and they were denied the right to ever return to their homes# Since then, $srael has further continued to e.pand its control over %alestinian lands, su"2ecting %alestinians of the 3est 4an5 and 6a!a to an oppressive military occupation# $n clear violation of the 6eneva 7onvention, the $sraeli government su"sidi!es the "uilding of illegal settlements in the occupied 3est 4an5# More than ,--,--- settlers currently inha"it the 3est 4an5 in more than '-- illegal outposts# Meanwhile in 6a!a, $srael maintains a cruel and devastating "loc5ade that enacts collective punishment on all civilians "y restricting their access to "asic necessities including food and medicine, leaving 8' percent of 6a!ans food insecure# %alestinians in the 9ccupied /erritories are su"2ect to a system of discriminatory, humiliating and ar"itrary laws# /hey are forced to use separate "us systems, put up with chec5points that physically disrupt their everyday lives while threatening their economic survival, and are routinely imprisoned without charge and due process# 4eside the targeting of %alestinians, tens of thousands of African asylum-see5ers in $srael are su"2ected to systematic violence through inhumane anti-4lac5 policies, detaining migrants for up to three years without trial in open-air detention centers in the :egev desert# $nternational law clearly and unequivocally prohi"its such a"usive practices# ;esolution <)< of the United :ations calls upon the $sraeli government to withdraw from all 9ccupied /erritories, while U: ;esolution '() affirms those %alestinians who were forci"ly uprooted from their homes have the right to return to their homeland# $n view of $srael0s impunity from its relentless violations, and as a powerful tool of non-violent resistance, %alestinian civil society is calling on people of conscious around the world to implement "oycotts, divestments, and sanctions (4&S against $srael until it complies with international law and human rights# As students who want to advance social 2ustice on and off our campus, we support %alestinian civil society0s call for 4&S and demand that our University divest from all companies that unethically profit from and support the $sraeli military occupation# 3e refuse to "e unwillingly implicated in the oppression of others# 3e "elieve that any prospect for 2ustice and peace "egins with an unconditional respect for human life#
