Born in El Ferrol, Spain, 1892 Mother was a conservative, upper class Roman Catholic Father was in the Spanish Naval Administration Corps. Brothers were naval officers Tried to follow his brothers' and father's footsteps and join the military

How Franco came to power


Francisco Franco was dictator during 18921975 and ruled over Spain until 1939. He rose to power during the bloody Spanish Civil War(19361939).He led the successful military rebellion to take over the democratic republic. At that time he had helped nazi Germany and fascist Italy. As a nationalist force he overthrew the democratically elected Second Republic. While adopting the title El Caudillo meaning The Leader, Franco persecuted political opponents.

Maintaining power and control in Spain


1) After the nationalist rebellion began, Franco went and started to take over places in Spain. 2) That made Spain divide between government and nationalist territories. The fascists and loyalists. 3) Later the nationalist established a government of their own and made Franco the leader.

4) Franco used cautious strategy, political strength and fear toward his enemies to slowly take over Spain.
5) The war ended in 1939 and was followed by execution or imprisonment of thousands of Loyalists(non-nationalists).

6) In 1945 he created the Charter of Rights as the governing document of Spain. He later made Spain into a monarchy.

Policy

He was a pro monarchist This caused the country to go under a monarchy and for expanded economic development and further advancement in domestic policies

How Franco was removed from power!

Franco was removed from power through death. o He had many illnesses and went through many surgeries.

What happened to his country?

The civilians gained rights o expression of themselves artistically (among others) They adopted democratic government They were able to be a part of the world market

In war, the heart must be sacrificed.

This means that, in war, you cannot feel bad for anybody. You must not show clemency. If you feel bad for your enemy, you will not kill them or harm them.
