Christine McDunn, PhD Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science Childrens Hospital Colorado 13123 E. 16th Ave., B130 Aurora, CO 80045 Dear Dr. McDunn,

February 14, 2014

This letter is to support the application of Ms. Krista Helbing for a psychology externship with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Childrens Hospital Colorado. Krista is completing her second year of coursework in our PsyD program in School Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver and will be cleared to begin externship as she enters the third year of her program this summer. Ive had Krista in a variety of courses, including a number of assessment courses (e.g., cognitive and achievement assessment, birth to three assessment and intervention, practicum in advanced psychological assessment) and her school psychology practicum, so I feel quite comfortable commenting on her ability and potential as a future psychologist. Besides being an excellent student, Krista has been a pleasure to have in class and to supervise. Beneath her quiet exterior is a bright, perceptive, and witty individual who genuinely cares about children. In addition, Krista is an incredibly hard worker who is very open to feedback about her performance. Krista has excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Her practicum supervisor has noted Kristas strong ability to develop rapport with both children and their parents, and that she is a strong team player. Krista has already developed strong assessment and report writing skills. She has an understanding of how to choose assessment tools and tests based on referral concerns and developmental and cultural considerations. She is able to integrate assessment data from multiple sources and to develop appropriate recommendations based on her interpretations of those data. In my Birth to Three course, Krista was one of the few students who easily transitioned from writing traditional psychological reports to writing developmental reports. She has a good grasp of developmental and infant mental health concepts. My recommendation for Krista Helbing is offered without reservation. I believe you will find Krista to be well organized, insightful, and empathic. Krista has high personal and professional standards and I am confident she will make notable contributions to the field in the future. If you have any questions or need additional information please feel free to call (303-315-6315). Sincerely,

M. Franci Crepeau-Hobson, Ph.D. Associate Professor & Program Director School Psychology
