NCSS.1.7.j ...guide learners in the application of knowledge of production, distribution, and consumption in the analysis of public issues such as the allocation of health care or the consumption of energy, and in devising economic plans for accomplishing socially desirable outcomes related to such issues 1.3 Anticipatory Set Yesterday we learned about Ben Franklin, an inventor. Today we will become inventors as we learn about product and distribution in Vermont. Ask students if they know where Ben and Jerrys is made. Have one student locate Vermont on a map. Next have a student locate Waterbury, Vermont. Ask students what their favorite type of Ben and Jerrys is. Today we are going to create, market and distribute a new flavor of ice cream that you all will be creating. Pass out a blank sheet of paper

1.4 Procedures Explain to students they can use any materials they would like, that can represent any ingredient. Have students create their new ice cream flavor with different art supplies. Once students have finished their new creations, ask students to write a quick description of their new flavor. Ask students to include a description of each ingredient and why they used each art material. Next have students view the marketing PowerPoint and take notes on the provided note page.

After each slide, ask students if they can think of their own example for each strategy. Have students create a marketing plan using the different strategies on the marketing page provided. On the marketing planning page, have students select a strategy, write a catch slogan, and sketch a marketing flyer. As students finish, have them create a flyer to distribute their new ice cream flavor. Walk around and observe students as they create their flyers.

D. Teacher Content Notes Sheet (attached) 1.9 Technology Computer and projector for the PowerPoint presentation. 2.1 Reflection on Planning Planning this lesson was a lot of fun. Creating a fun way for students to learn a little more about Vermont, while learning about product and distribution. When I was assigned Vermont, at first I had no clue as to what I wanted to teach about. Once my group had mentioned Ben and Jerrys I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I new creating a new flavor would be fun for students. To add more of a social studies aspect I thought creating a marketing plan would be great. I think actually teaching this lesson would be a lot of fun. I think students would really enjoy this lesson.
