Life and Times of Pythagoras

Study of mathematics 2500 years ago was a part of the Greek religion. Pythagoras traveled and had teachers in Greece and Egypt.

Ancient paper from 2000 <----years ago. Showing geometry solution

Pythagoras and a group of men called Pythagoreans became a secret group who studied math and tried to work on solutions for math problems. They taught math was magic and explained all of life through numbers.

Practical use of the work of Pythagoras

The design of the Egyptian pyramids required exact placement of the stones the designers had very detailed plans. The stones had to have exact 90 degree angles to t together correctly. The base of each pyramid had to be square.

More on the pyramids

Very heavy stones were used to build the pyramids and it was very difcult to change where the rocks were placed. The Egyptian engineers used a rope tied together at the ends with 12 knots tied in equal distances around the rope

Measuring a square corner using a rope

They knew that when the rope shaped into a triangle with sides of 3, 4, and 5 it create a right angle between the sides of 3 and 4.
