An aurora is a natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions, caused by the collisions of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere (thermospehere). The charged particles originated in the magnetosphere and solar wind are directed by the Earth's magnetic field into the atmosphere. Most aurora occup in a band known as the auroral zone which is typicality 3 to 6 in latitudinal extent and at all local times or longitudes. Aurora is classified as diffuse or discrete aurora. The diffuse aurora is a featureless glow in the sky which may not be visible to the naked eye even in a dark night and defines the extent of the auroral zone. Discrete aurora are sharply defined features within the diffuse aurora which vary in brightness from just barely visible to the naked eye to bright enough to read a newspaper at night. Discrete aurorae are usually observed only in the night sky because they are not as bright as the sunlit sky. In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis (or the northern lights), named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, by Pierre Gassendi in 1621. Its southern counterpart, the aurora australialis (or the southern light), has almost identical features to the aurora borealis and changes simultaneously with the changes in the northern auroral zone and is visible from high southern latitudes in Antartica, South America and Austraia. The following are some facts about aurora, EXCEPT ... (A) It is diffuse or discrete. (B) It is a display of natural light. (C) It can be seen in Arctic and Antarctic. (D) It is always bright enough for you to read a newspaper. (E) It is caused by the collision of chargedparticles and atoms in the thermosphere.

Nowadays, many people have realized that agriculture is much more important than other supporting tools in economic development. in Indonesia agriculture should be the priority of development because of some good reasons. First of all, the agriculture's contribution in the beginning of the development of the country was the highest of all sectors. At present, almost half of the total Indonesian labors are working in the agriculture sector, but the contribution of the agriculture sector does not reach 30 percents. Second, the agriculture sector is expected to fulfill the need of food in the country. As the number of population increases in an alarming rate each year, food supply must also increase but the agricultural production per capita never increases more than one percent each year, and in some extreme cases, it is even stagnant. Last but not least, without agricultural development, the growth of the industrial sector will be hampered because the growth that comes from industry will bring a wider gap into the internal economy in that country. In turn, this gap will create serious poverty problems, wider inequality of income distribution, and increase unemployment. It is, therefore, obvious that the government should put agriculture as the priority of national development.

A natural disaster is a terrible accident, e.g. a great flood, a big fire or an earthquake. It usually causes great suffering and loss of a large sum of money. The casualties are injured or died. Some people are homeless and need medical care. Floods occur when the water of rivers, lakes, or streams overflow their banks and pour out into the surrounding land. Floods are caused by many different things. Often heavy rainstorms that last for a brief time can cause a flood. But not all heavy storms are followed by flooding. If the surrounding land is flat and can absorb the water, no flooding will occur. If, however, the land is hard and rocky, heavy rain cannot be absorbed. Where the banks are low, a river may overflow and flood adjacent to lowland. In many parts of the world floods are caused by tropical storms called hurricanes or typhoons. They bring destructive wind of high speed, torrents of rain, and flooding. When a flood occurs, the destruction to the surrounding land can be severe. Whole villages and towns are sometimes swept away by water pouring swiftly over the land. Railroad tracks and buckles are uprooted from their beds. Highways are washed away. When a building caught fire, the firemen pitched in to help battle the blaze. Before the pumps were invented, people formed bucket brigades to fight fires. Standing side by side, they formed a human chain from the fire to nearby well or river. They passed buckets of water from hand to hand to be poured on the flames. The damage of fire did depend a great deal on where it happened. In the country or a small village, only a single house might burn down. But in crowded cities, fire often destroyed whole locks and neighborhoods before being controlled. What can possibly prevent rivers and lakes from overflowing ? (A) An absorbent bed. (B) A rocky surrounding . (C) A low land. (D) A high bank. (E) A high road.

(B) The pump helps people to fight fires more efficiently. (C) Fires in big cities are always very big. (D) People no longer use buckets to control fire.
