Porositas There are two main types of porosity observed in weld metal.

The first (globular porosity) consists of spherical, or near spherical, pores, which can vary in diameter from 0,05 to 5 mm. in the second type, the cavities are elongated. Sometimes elongated cavities follow the solidification pattern, while in others the nucleate near the centre of the weld and grow lengthwise, sometimes increasing in diameter at the same time. The second type of pore is known as blowhole, wormhole or tunnel pore. Porosity results from the desorption of hydrogen or nitrogen. Oxygen is soluble in silver and its evolution may cause porosity In pure silver welds. Gold and platinum do not dissolve oxygen takes the from of oxide precipitation.
