Learning Area: History Strand/Topic from the Australian Curriculum Use a range of communication forms (oral, graphic, written) and digital technologies (ACHHS106) Reasons (economic, political and social) for the establishment of British colonies in Australia after 1800. (ACHHK093) The role that a significant individual or group played in shaping a colony; for example, explorers, farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, writers, humanitarians, religious and political leaders, and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Students have researched and created a bubbl.us mind-map clearly stating the reasons for the establishment of British colonies.

Students produced a timeline using timelinemaker.com, which shows important events/dates during the colonial period.

Watched a YouTube clip displaying the impacts of colonisation on the aboriginal people in the 18th century.

Written a letter to the British authorities from the perspective of an Aboriginal Australian, expressing their feelings and experiences

Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb) As a result of this lesson, students will be able to: Create an engaging and informative presentation about Australian history using Prezi. Insert images and a YouTube clip into prezi. Listen and follow the steps set by the teacher.

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation: Ensure video, mind-map and timeline are available on the wiki. Reserve computer lab for students. Set up projector screen.

Provision for students at educational risk: Place children with vision impairments close to the big screen Supervise class by moving around the room, and attending to students who tend to struggle with literacy.

3) Teacher reminds students that these documents were all saved onto the yr 5 wiki. 4) Today is our last lesson in looking at Australian colonisation. We will be finishing off this topic by making a prezi, which will include all of your findings. 2 min 5) The teacher instructs students on how to set up their prezi. - In a moment, I would like you all to go back to your seats and go onto prezi.com. - Teacher brings up website on the projector and explains, Once the website has loaded, you must all create a free and public account like this. - Teacher demonstrates how to create free account. Students must insert their name and email address. prezi.com

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

6) Students return to their seats and create their free prezi account. 7) Teacher circulates the room, ensuring all students have created their account and are all up to the same place. 8) Teacher returns to the front and goes through the step- by- step procedure on putting together the Prezi, in which the students follow on their own computer

9) Step 1- You all may chose your desired themed template for your prezi, Keeping in mind our topic is Australian colonisation. Step 2- Click on the first slide and enter the title Australian Colonisation. Students may change the font, size, and colour using the above tool bar. 25 min Step 3- On the next slide; students must insert their bubbl.us mind-map into the slide. - Click on the Insert button at the top of the screen and select image, then browse to find your mind-map. - To zoom in on specific bubbles, click the add + button in the bottom left Projector screen and softschools.com

hand corner and choose the shape of your new slide. - Select which bubbles you would like to zoom in on. - Then drag your new slide under the previous mind-map slide. 3 min Step 4- On the next slide, the students are to insert their timeline that they had previously created. - Students need to use the same procedure as before to insert their timeline. 1 min - Please can you select dates in which the Prezi will zoom into.

Step 5- the fourth slide will include the YouTube video that the class watched the day before. - Students are to find the web address from the video and copy it. - Select the insert tab and find insert YouTube. The students can then paste in their address. 5 min

Step 6- The Prezi is now complete. Watch back your Prezi by clicking on the opening slide, and pressing the down arrow.

Step 7- Students are to save their presentation and insert onto their blogs.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students) 1. The teacher brings all the students back down to the map where they discuss the benefits of using Prezi to present information.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?) 2. Teacher asks students to return to the classroom, to prepare for 5 min Japanese.
