Lesson Plan #3 (50 Minute Lesson)
! Lesson Topic: Building trust and awareness through respectful physical contact
! Big Idea: What is it like to rely on a sense other than sight?
! Skills and Understandings to be Emphasized:
o Respect, trusting, communication, and awareness of surroundings.
o The students will be able to connect the work in the previous class that made them think about
not knowing if you are someones defender or enemy. This class will help the students pay more
attention to their surroundings.

! Journal assignment- How aware do you think you are of your surroundings? Do you ever
feel uncomfortable because of your surroundings? If yes, why do you feel
uncomfortable? (people, situations) In todays activity, which job did you prefer, being
the leader with your eyes open or your eyes closed?
! Sequence of Lesson:
o Warm Up: Zip Zap Zop (10 min)
! Basic Idea: Everyone stands in a circle. You have everyone repeat the words zip, zap,
zop three to four times, all together. You demonstrate the game by starting it. You have
a bolt of energy in your hands. To start, you send the bold out of your hands with a strong
forward motion straight at someone else in the circle (using your hands, body, and voice)
saying zip. You must have eye contact with them when you pass it immediately on to
someone else saying zap. That person passes it on with a zop. The game continues.
o Blind no contact: (30 min)
! Basic Idea: There are two single-file lines of equal number facing each other. One line
closes their eyes. To start, you will silently point at individuals in the other line. As they
are pointed at, each individuals in the other line. As they are pointed at, each individual
will cross to the other line and take someone (not the person directly across from them)
by the hand, or shoulder, or arm. They will begin to guide this person around the space.
The students will get comfortable being led and not opening their eyes. They will then
switch jobs.
