2. Reflect personally on your experience in one of these areas.

I have one student that has behavior issues such as calling out and hitting others. She is very smart and seems to want attention. She is currently on a plan where she gets 3 tickets and when she calls out she must pay back a ticket. If she has any tickets left by recess time she may have a prize such as computer time or talking with the teacher, which were some of her own choices. Tuesday just before recess I complimented her by sayin g, Dont you have 2 tickets left!? I let her know that she could use the computer for 10 minutes after recess. Well this m ade her think that she had to have two tickets left to get a prize. She seemed motivated and wrote in her journal (which she shared with the class) about how great it is that if she has two tickets left she can have a prize. Her behavior seems to be getting better. So I accidently set the bar higher for her but she is obviously up to the challenge!

3. Looking ahead What do you want to focus on next week? What goals can I set?
Focus for My Work with Children Focus for Observation or Other Involvement

Make sure my voice is loud enough; use the microphone Use positive directions Give Gabbi attention at the appropriate time o Ignore call outs o Dont point out negative behavior o Praise her for good behavior

While the teacher is at meetings keep the class going just as if she was still there. Teach more lessons.

I planned and taught my first social studies lesson which was on patriotic symbols and traditions. Apparently my timing was all off! My lesson took much longer than I had planned for, but my students were engaged the entire time! They really enjoyed the lesson which carried out over two days. I was proud of my lesson but learned that I will have to more carefully consider how long tasks will take.

Im so lucky to have a wonderful site teacher and team! They collaborate so well! I feel like their collaboration helps them accomplish so much and makes them more effective teachers for their students. When they/we casually share with each other each day I learn new strategies, ideas, and new perspectives. Im taking notes for how to be such a good team member for when I am a licensed teacher on my own.

2. Reflect personally on your experience in one of these areas.

My students get excited easily, which I think is great, except we have a big problem with shout outs. April had me do a project where I listed my expectations for my students about what I want them to look and sound like when I am teaching. My expectations were the same as hers. I reviewed them with the kids and had them suggest what the consequences should be. We decided on Stop and Thinks and missing recess. On Tuesday I gave out 17 Stop and Thinks and one Stop and Go. I need to talk with April about how to go about taking recess time away, whether it s individually or whole class, and what they will do during this time. For some kids this may be more of a reward because they are always trying to stay in from rece ss! Im going to keep on reinforcing the rules and hope that things get better soon! I was also struggling this week because I had no voice! I dont know what I would have done without my train whistle!!

3. Looking ahead What do you want to focus on next week? What goals can I set?

Walk around for proximity management. Focus on all areas of the classroom and students equally. Praise Gabbis good behavior. Enforce the rules; especially shout outs, by giving Stop and Thinks.
