Standards (1a: Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy) o CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.6-8.7 Integrate quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text with a version of that information expressed visually (e.g., in a flowchart, diagram, model, graph, or table). Objectives (1b: Selecting instructional outcomes). o My goals for the lesson are to review what we have covered in chapter 12 Inside Earths Interior by completing a lab that models the types of plate boundaries and what landforms may result from those boundaries. The students will demonstrate their learning by correctly identifying, describing, and predicting the Earths landforms and structures surrounding different boundaries using the materials provided. Outline o Students will begin the hour by turning in their homework assigned on Friday and completing a warm up activity. o The warm up activity will be review questions from the previous weeks classes. This will be done individually. o I will go over the warm up with the class and they will turn it in. o I will then talk about and introduce the lab for the day. o I will then split them into their pre-assigned groups and pass out the lab packet to each group. o I will then pass out the supplies and the lab will commence. I will be walking around to each group and checking in with them. I will answer any questions groups have. o At the end of the class period I will have the students clean up and return to their seats. I will then wrapup the lab and have a class discussion based on the lab. o The lab will be due by the next day. Use of groups (1d: Designing coherent instruction) o I will be using groups of two or three to complete the lab. I will then use the think-pair-share method during the lab wrap-up section. Materials/resources you will use in this lesson. (1e: Designing coherent instruction) o Materials: I will be using a warm up sheet, fruit roll ups, graham crackers, frosting, plastic knives, paper plates, paper cups, water, lab packets, and the whiteboard. o Resources: I used the lab packet and book to create the warm-up question. Assessment for and of learning. (1f: Designing assessments of learning) How will you assess students learning throughout the lesson (formative)? Describe any summative assessments to be used if applicable o I will be using summative assessment in the written warm-up question and on the written responses in the completed lab packet. o I will assess the groups formatively during the lab portion by walking around and asking questions and observing. I will also be using formative assessment during the lab wrap-up time when the students share with the class.
