Never Ending Road

Let me ask you a question. Take a look at the past 100 years; look at all of the greatest achievements we have developed. try to imagine life in another hundred years? We have developed a system of transportation from horse drawn carriages, to sophisticated automobiles that almost anyone can afford. Our ways of sustaining human life has evolved from only three billion people, to 7.046 billion people and growing. Moreover; When the population grows, cast of living grows housing grows, and food must grow. From the start of the founding fathers, to the government we have now, what is government going to be like in the future? Communications and social media we have gone from writing a letter, screaming down the street, the telegram, telephone, the first email, to now a day texting.

How are we going to be living in the future? There is House size, materials used, work income, we have to look at. If we take a look in to the past people lived in these small houses that sat on land as small as two hundred to five hundred square feet and two floors high. Now a day we see houses that are 500 to 900 square feet with 3 to 5 floors. More over we see people utilizing one room apartments that have a kitchen bathroom living room and bed room all in one. In future housing I think we will be asking our selfs how small is too small?

For the longest time we have seen houses made from wood, stone, mettle, and glass. You might wonder, what houses could be made of in the future? When Walt Disney built the house of the future the house was made out of none other than plastic. The interior was plastic with light weight materials for carpet and currents the appliances and silver wear were made of plastic, even the exterior was made of plastic. Move forward to 2014 the population is till living

in houses that are made from wood and stone. Would we start to see houses start to get stronger but using less material along with using less space?

A family in Seattle utilizes the space of an old shipping container and turned it into a one bed, one bath, and kitchen/living room house. From the outside the house looks like a green shipping container minus the wood door and sliding glass windows. The inside is roughly the size of two parking spaces one in front of the other length wise and only one parking space withes wise. Could we really be on the verge of utilizing less and less space to sustain the human population? (Seattletimes )

What will work be like in the next hundred years? In 2014 we are seeing more and more of our jobs being replaced by robotics that can do the same amount of work, ten times faster. This in turn leaves hundreds of people jobless. What will we start to see if the entire work force is replaced with macanical workers? Will we see billions of people poor and jobless and the only people with money are the C.E.Os, or could life be like star trek where money doesnt exist and everyone just has whatever they need?

This inturn leads me to my next question. If robots are going to replace our jobs, what about fighting wars? Are our wars going to be like, The Terminator, where machines find humans a threat, so they try to destroy them could it be like star wars where you have a droid army that takes commands from a higher up order? Or will we simply be at peace knowing we

would never win an endless battle? Only two of those really require an A.I. system to allow machinery to think and act for them self. However; through a robot named ASIMO, we are able to see firsthand how close robotic is coming to having their very first android that can think for themselves. The one thing that all machinery has in common is they always become obsolete. However; with an Artificial Intelligence, would there be the ability to sync its systems and adapt to the new technology that is being created every day?

Like the arteries in the human body, how they pump the blood from the heart to the extremities and then back to the heart again, freeways do a very similar thing with the cars leaving the city, and then coming right back in. When the freeways were first built, they were designed to mimic the human body. They would alleviate the flow of traffic to get a person to their destination faster and easier. If we look at the state highways, the roads that are traveling north to south are negative numbers, and the ones that are going west to east are positive numbers. When the first settlers came to America and wanted to find a way to get from the east coast to the west coast faster, their main goal was to create those west to east highways. All of the other highways like I-15 and the I-5 were added on later.

When construction workers were working on the highways, they ran into a few snags such as mountains and rivers. They wanted to find a way to continue the highway without destructing the landmarks. This is how super bridges were created. Instead of adding on a road like laying down asphalt and continuing or like blowing up a mountain and continuing, the

workers pre-made bridges and utilized a crane to slide them into place. To keep the bridge from destroying any of the land, they utilize the space of less than fifty feet in diameter for pillars.

When workers made roads, they used materials like concrete, asphalt, and rebar to construct the roads. Today, we now have the knowledge that using such materials can potentially destroy the road and make it more attainable of wear. We see this when you create a road in a wet climate, like in the southern United States, the climate is humid from the surrounding water, and the water can rise and fall at different times which can actually eat away at the road. This is why we have created compression foam or high density foam that can be laid over an uneven road or a road that can potentially sink, and then have asphalt laid over that, so that when a car drives over it, the foam expands, and the car would never even notice that that had happened.

What could roads be like in the future? Could we, like in the movie Tron, utilize light to create roads? We could use lights in the road to show lanes, barriers, and any other signals for cars to follow. Whenever there is an accident, instead of having to sit in the traffic, the road could actually change itself to alleviate the flow of traffic, around the accident. Another idea for roads, especially in the winter season, would be to add some sort of defrost system so that we wouldnt have to worry about icy roads; they would automatically defrost themselves in the winter time. Here in Salt Lake City, they have already began the process by putting sprayers on the side of the road, that will spray a defrost solution onto the road for when it snows. Also, the sprayers will only go off according to the outside temperature.

We are starting to see more and more cars that are elective, natural gas, and hydrogen powered. From the way that the car uses the energy down to the types of tires used on the car, we are starting to get a wider sight on how to use energy for transportation. In big cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and even here in Salt Lake, weve adapted the idea of a tram system. On all electric trains and metro systems that can go both above and underground, they can transport hundreds of people throughout the day by using less energy than it takes to drive back and forth to work. We are starting to see tires that are almost completely sound proof, and they have better traction on dry roads and even wet and icy roads. The U.S Army is actually incorporating tires that are 3D printed, and have a rubber tread for the tire. This enables the military assault vehicle to go onto rough terrain and never get a flat tire, and never get stuck.

The ability to utilize energy allows humanity to look towards the skies. For example, we see all electric airplanes and jets, and we also see some that run on natural gas or corn oil. Airplanes are now able to carry more passengers that their previous counterparts were able to, using less energy. Will we start to see new machinery that will ultimately eliminate flying machines as we know them, and allow our regular day cars to look towards the skies?

For the longest time we have always envisioned cars that could defigh gravity its self. If we take a look at the 1980s movie, Back to the Future. Marttie McFly travels through time to the year 2015 there they have hover boards and cars that have the option to drive on the road or use a high speed highway in the air. Having the option to hover or fly, replaces the need to drive

on the ground little alone drive on any road. But being able to drive the car is one thing, driving in a car you printed from your home computer is another.

What does double o-seven have in common with 3d printer? If you say to help Q make his weapons you would be close but incorrect. In the movie 007 sky fall, 007 is on the run from a bad guy that could possibly take over all of M.I.5. 007 cant religh on his world famous Aston Martin vanquish. No he has to drive his 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which untrained to necked eye happens to be completely 3d printed. Which begs the question would we really need annoying car salesmen with plad jackets trying to get you in a car you really dont want? Or is it just as simple as clicking your mouse and your car is already being printed? ( voxeljet)

Energy both in the form of food, combustible material, and electric makes the world run. There are over 7 billion people living on planet earth today. Question is how will we be able to feed the population but also how will we provide energy to that many people? In places like New York City Washington state to even here in your back ward, people have always had gardens and when there are gardens there are usually farmers markets.

Back during World War 2 the U.S. had to come up with some way to feed the nation as well as their troops seines how all triads from Europe to the Americas were being withheld. The answer lied in victory gardens this ment homes communities even window spaces were being utilized to make gardens. Fast forward almost 70 years the number of gardeners has improved

exponentially we are starting to see roof tops that use the suns energy to grow crops and supply electricity to the house rain that has been collected from the last rain fall being used to water plants and we see plants that are getting stronger when it comes to protecting its self from disease and lack of water.

When the population grows the need for more food rises, but the use of materials to make the food is some times out of reach. Farmor today are having to cut back on their production of crops because of the miss use of water. Several schools in New York City are using a hydroponics system to grow their crops they use a mixture of science and agriculture to grow healthy crops for harvest. They use a very sophisticated system called hydroponics. A hydroponics uses water from wither a rain barrel or a fish tank to give the plants their nutrients. The water is first pumped up to the top set of plants which then trickle the water down to the next plant to on until the water is collected into a rain gutter that places the water back into the fish tank. This process gives the plats the nutrients they need and gives the fish oxygen rich water. Once the crops are ready for picking they are harvested for the local farmers market and depending on the type of fish and how many there are the fish can be cycled out and go to the market as well. (Growing a Greener World) What is hydroponics going to look like in the future? Are we going to have a water shortage, and have to develop a goo substance that could replace water and still provide the same requirements that water does? Or are we going to see our food is created; simply by pushing a button and having our dinner there right before our eyes? Dr. Mark post an Dutch researcher at the University of Maastricht, created the first ever hamburger paddy grown from a peetree dish.

This quarter pound piece of meet caust up to 300,000 dollars to make . Which makes you ask your self is this where the resuraunt business will be in the future? The ability to grow a piece of meet is beyond question maybe dow the road this will be our way of pushing a button and having our food right in front of us , or just maybe it gets rid of the meat section in the neighborhood grocery store. Weve seen energy plants use cole and gas to supply energy to the city. Now we are seeing solar, wind farms, nuclear power plants and even dams that use the flow of water to produce energy. The only problem is eventually all of these energies will run out. What could take the place of these energy factors and also be self sustaining? What about fusion technology? For the longest time scientists have been trying to find a way to use a fusion technology that would produce more energy then it consumed itself. Fusion technology to put it short is basically trying to harness the power of the sun and produce an abundance of power, without using an abundance of energy to self sustain. (nuclear fusion)
