Adam Padgett ENGL 1102 March 30th, 2014 Cyberbullying: Present situation I had not been sure about cyberbullying, but I noticed what cyberbullying is and how scary cyberbullying is through this research paper. First of all, I was wondering how I can explain the term cyberbullying, a writer explains cyberbullying like The term cyberbullying commonly is used to refer to communications among children and youth. But, in the next chapter, he wrote Because cyberbullying has no clear definition, it is difficult to measure. Also he says Much cyberbullying conduct is typical adolescent behavior.

In todays world, there are people suffering from cyberbullying. It is essential for young people to have a device to use internet or mail. According to McGrath, young people use the internet for an average of 1 hour and 17 minutes each day. This is because the internet is utilized to do various things, for instance, collect a lot of data for homework, the news, play games, and send mails. The more useful laptop or tablet such as iPad has become, the more internet users will increase. Also while the users increase, more problems will occur. We can use the internet everywhere in this technology life, but to put it the other way around it would be possible for cyberbullying to occur not only in school but also everywhere. Therefore

it could be possible for many students to have been bullied online. As evidence, in this book, the writer shows us a list. This is a data I summarized from the list. Nearly 43 % of young people have been bullied online, and 710 % of students are cyber bullied each term. Moreover, there is a fact that 70 % of students report seeing frequent online bullying. Also, cyberbullying is very dangerous for young students. This is because young people do not have courage to report cyberbullying to their teacher. Therefore it is too hard to escape cyberbullying. As a result of studying, the following results were calculated. 90 % of young people who have seen social networking bullying say they have ignored it, however, 48 % of young people being cyberbullied do not report the incident. To make matters worse, young people who are cyberbullied are 29 times more likely to consider suicide

If someone found a bullying, how would he/she react to that bullying? I think it seems to be natural to report a teacher, but actually only a minority (1%) of the 859 pupils who were witness to cyber-bullying alerted a teacher or a parent to the fact that a pupil was being cyber-bullied. Also It was encouraging, however, that one in twenty pupils (6% girls and 5% boys) said they tried to stop the bullying. The methods of intervention among boys, however, tended to involve some form of verbal or physical aggression. I felt it is not good to involve a form of physical aggression even in order to try to stop a bully. This is because that might makes it possible to increase bullies. Therefore I think the best way to decrease bullies is to report a

teacher or parents.

Cyberbullying is a kind of crafty way to abuse someone. This is because a criminal can bully anonymously. In todays world, because of anonymity, there are many problems including cyberbullying that didnt solve yet. Therefore I guess the world on the internet could become peace without anonymity. A writer refers to this. Cyberbullying is a particularly cowardly form of abuse. Social communication technologies permit people who engage in cyber abuse to hide in the anonymity of cyberspace. With anonymity, those who cyber abuses do not have to own their actions, and they often do not fear being punished. The technology can also shelter the user from tangible feedback about consequences of ones actions, which can result in minimized empathy or remorse for the target of the bullying. I agree with him completely. All those who cyberbully can feel free to blame someone without hesitation.

Unless someone abolishes institution of anonymous, some people would continue to do cruel things. Therefore at least we should think of how to avoid cyberbullying. First of all, a writer says Look for signs of harassment and signs of public humiliation. He means that cyber bullies use public tactics, for instance, on social media site they might post a bad message. Also, they might steal a password to hack someones accounts. That makes it possible to buy something expensive.

Second, he refers to taking immediate action. He insists that this method has four steps. First one is attempt to identify the cause. Second one is Stop responding to the bully's messages. This is in order not to receive bullying message. Next one is Save the evidence and Block the bully. It means that people are bullied online should block the person. In summary of other methods, people who are bullied should report someone like school administrators as soon as possible, and get law enforcement. I think law enforcement is very effective because no one can beat the law at all. In conclusion, Present situation of cyberbullying is very bad. Therefore, more and more people should know this situation, and try to improve these circumstances. Also, I want people who are cyberbullied to know how you can avoid that as soon as possible. If more and more people thought of this cruel situation, the world online will become much better than now.
