Progress Test 2
Dear Sir/Madam
I want to book a room at your hotel. Id like one
single room for three nights from 12th to 15th
February. I prefer a non-smoking room.
Can you please confirm the price for bed and
breakfast? And is there wireless broadband in
the rooms?
I also need parking for my car.
Many thanks.
Yours faithfully

Progress Test 3
Dear Pat
I prefer to travel with National. It is more
expensive that EurLo, but the airport is closer to
the city. The taxi is more expensive than the
train, but the journey time is shorter. We can
also have a free meal during the flight. There are
more flights each day, and the flights arrive
earlier. With EurLo, we arrive at 10.45 p.m. I think
this is too late!
All the best

Dear Pat
I prefer to travel with EurLo. It is much cheaper
than National. The cost of getting into the city
centre by train is also cheaper than the taxi from
Barcelona Airport. There is no free meal during
the EurLo flight, and the flight arrives late in the
evening, but for me, this is not a problem. What
do you think?

Subject: Visit from the Polish sales office
Dear team
In our meeting earlier today, we discussed the
programme for the visit and agreed the
following:
Edith is going to meet the Polish team at the
airport at 8.45 a.m. The sales team will join us
for coffee and an informal talk at 9.45 a.m. Eric
will lead the meeting at 10.15. Were having lunch
in the company restaurant at 12.45 p.m., and in
the afternoon, Veejay will take the visitors on a
tour of the factory. Well have a question-and-
answer time and coffee lead by Tamsin at 4.00
p.m., and after that, at 5.00 p.m., Edith will go
with the Polish team to their hotel.

Dear Jeremy
Im writing about the Global Trade Fair on 28
August. Were going to present from 2.00 to 2.30
p.m. Do you know what time we should arrive?
Also, what products we should present?
Were travelling on 27 August on flight 267. What
airline is that? What time does the flight depart
and arrive? Were going to meet Carlos Lpez in
the evening, but where are we going to meet?
We return on 29 August on a flight at 4.35 p.m.
Do you have the other flight details? What airline
are we flying? What time do we arrive?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Recent research shows that
most professionals around the
world think that Internet video
conferencing using an
Internet video phone to see and
talk with other people around
the world is very useful. They
also think that video
conferences can replace
business travel for face-to-face
meetings.
Nearly 1,000 top executives in
many countries were
interviewed. About 900 of them
agreed that video conferencing,
e-mail and instant messaging
help make them competitive.
Video conferencing saves time,
because professionals dont need
to travel for meetings. Also,
travelling abroad can be very
tiring for business people, but
video conferencing is easy. It
also saves money on air tickets
and hotels. In the past, video
conferencing was very
expensive. But now you need
only an inexpensive camera that
connects to your computer, and
a low-cost Internet video service
like Yahoo. Finally, reducing air
travel is good for the
environment.
Mobile-phone makers like
Samsung, Nokia and Sony
Ericsson are introducing mobile
phones with video-conferencing
features, so video conferencing
will soon be even easier.
