Finding the Deeper Meaning of the EIP Essay
There was much learned in the experience of researching information. Upon finding the
information that was already constructed and collected, the struggle was found to be that my
research was going to that kind of work. In other words, it was going to be me who made the
piece that constructed the ideas that I needed in my essay. It was a difficult task to stay focused
because so many brilliant minds create interesting and abstract ideas. For example, there were
small stories of how some lived the ideals of feminism in a third-world country. I wanted to
incorporate them into the EIP essay; however, there was no possible way of completing the
essay with the correct focus of making a connection between the different countries and
exploring how their cultures inhibited or did not inhibit them. It was most difficult to finish
reading the books online and trying to find information to use. Overall, the essay was
constructed by wanting to talk about connecting Scribners literacy as a state of grace to make
assumptions about Venezuelas future. In the end, there was one big lesson learned. For
example, I would read so many pages of online books only to find that the book had nothing to
do with my research.
The struggle to find focus and the ability to finish writing about student activism around
the world got easier when I found that China, Mexico, and Venezuela had the same issue in
giving a form of elitism to a select few of politicians or academic scholars. It turns out that most

student movements needed to be based on harmony, friendship, and with the intentions of
improving environment for the future generations rather than the current generation. For
example, the Taiwanese were proven to be more successful in the sense that their peaceful
protests and connection with friendship gave them legitimate impact in the government policy.
The one thing that I learned from this research was the importance of maintaining me
accountable for the work that was not completed in time. There could have been more
research done if I had chosen wiser ways of research and maintained a solid consideration of
the amount of time I had left to complete the essay. For example, I should have used more
documentaries and news reports as part of me research because they summarized the basics of
what I needed in my research for a short amount of time. I could have also interviewed
professors from the university as part of my research.
The thing that pleased me the most about the research is the fact that I learned more
about what I am aiming to do on campus. I am a co-founder and executive board officer for a
progressive and activist group for the Latino community. My research gave me insight into what
others have done in the past and what sort of trends to avoid. For example, the inclusion of
participants, and open use of volunteers is something that should be considered upon
evaluating the effectiveness of an organization. The lessons in history must be learned and
applied in order for a better tomorrow.
