1. What was the area of focus today during the lesson? What activities related to the area of focus did the teacher include in the lesson today? Because the students did not have school Friday, Mrs. Woodruff was doing her testing while I was observing. She takes a running record and a phonemic awareness record on each student so that she is always up to date on where each student is at. She also said that she does this so that groups are as up to date as possible and everyone is in the correct group and reading at the correct level. The other students were in the regular reading rotations. What went well with the instruction? What did students learn? I think testing the students weekly is a great idea. It takes a lot of work, but it is best for the students. They know what level they are at and what the score on the records, and always want to do better. In this setting, the students are learning where they are at according to grade level, and they are asking what they can do to move up to the higher levels. Overall, the students are highly motivated to increase their reading ability. 2. Explain a growth moment for yourself where you realized, learned, or confirmed something from today dealing with student achievement in the area of reading. (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, before/during/after reading. Mrs. Woodruff had me do both a running record and a phonemic awareness record. It was a great experience to do a real life record! Because she was doing her own record keeping she had a simple way of doing it, so I was able to do it easily (kind of). 3. Describe a moment when a student grasped an idea/concept-that got it! kind of moment. How was the teacher able to facilitate this experience? Explain the situation. After the students did the phonemic awareness test, Mrs. Woodruff and I would go over it with the student to show them what they had gotten wrong. Each time to student would same something like Oh! and they understood it because it was explained to them.
There was no opportunity to put my lesson plan into action this day**********
